Chances of colic after scoping.

Had the vet out today and she thinks hes got ulcers so would like to scope, so we are going to book him in..but just wondered what the chances of colic are after? He is 24yrs old and Connemara if that makes any difference and he hasn't had colic before from what I know of, he has had very mild choke once which was sorted by a soupy feed. Thanks

Are there any side effects?
There are rarely any untoward side effects of gastroscopy, although occasionally a horse may show mild colic symptoms associated with distension of the stomach by air (this usually resolves one the air is withdrawn at the completion of the procedure).

Occasionally the gastroscopy procedure may result in a small nose bleed. This is perfectly harmless and will stop with in a relatively short time.

If you tell the vet that you are concerned they may be able to administer an anti spasmodic injection, usually buscopan works well.

My horse developed colic after her scope. I was a bit annoyed as I had to call out and pay for the vet to come and sort her out. Thought this should be anticipated with the advances in equine medicine

Yes you would think you wouldn't have to pay considering. Was it a bad colic? Hope she is okay now. He will be scoped at hospital..thanks
