My four year old is getting incredibly strong when being ridden. Absolutely fine when jumping and out on a hack, but general flat work I'm feeling like my arms are being stretched by the day. He's just in a normal eggbutt snaffle, but wonder if a change of bit would help. I'm not very good with my bits so has anyone got any suggestions as to what I should try?

Is he just leaning on the bit? In which case a simple change to a french link or a loose ring may prevent him from being able to do this and get him up off his forehand. I'd be reluctant to put anything stronger in his mouth until he's more balanced

If he is only 4 he is probably just leaning because he is unbalanced and on the forehand. It will probably resolve with schooling.

In the meantime as Boss says, something light and 'fiddly' like a loose ring frence link so he hasn't got much to lean on.
