My boy is fed by yard staff. Has always had 1/2 scoop pony nuts, a couple of handfuls of readi grass and 1/2 scoop speedi beet x twice a day. I buy topspec leisure supplement to add to this.
Just found out today they have been leaving out speedi beet and using water to dampen. This must have happened as weather turned colder. he seemed hungry to me and I give extra hay every time I am up there.
Anyway now they are going to feed pony nuts ,apple chaff (which I have never heard of) and soy oil.
I am pretty annoyed that they didn't tell me of the change especially as charges have gone up. So is the new feed roughly equivalent to the old one? Or shall I buy some speedy beet myself or get a balancer instead of a supplement. Or just get my own feed?

Friend gives hers apple chaff ( Molichaff i think) second ingredient is mollasses! If your horse is a good doer I would get your own food, If it looses weight over winter then new food seems ok as long as they feed reccommended amount.
I have fed speedi-beet to mine all year round for years I love it they love it! All natives ,and get that with a handfull of D & H Fibergy and Baileys low-cal.

If she is a good doer then I would leave it as it is. apple chaff is not nutritious at all, just tastes nice, so your feed sounds token gesture.

If you are worried about vits and mins then maybe buy a supplement.

But I would have a word saying you want to be consulted BEFORE they change her feed in the future.

I feed Apple Chaff and its fine for mine (although I dont feed it to the lami shetland!)
, it simply smells nice and the horses love it so its just adding a bit more bulk / fibre which is basically what most basic chaffs do anyway...! IMO Readi-grass is pretty useless bulk (it is simply dry grass afterall!).

Personally, Id choose my own feed. Luckily I keep my horses at home, but Id never trust some random person to decide what my horse gets and trust them to do it!
