I'm not always a big fan of human names for horses, but it depends on the animal.
Our Westie is called Wallace, often shorted to Wally, Waldo, Waldog. Named after William Wallace by my uncle

I have a Barney. I don't think any other name would suit him, other than some choice 4 letter words. There is a Posh, a Pants and an Inca at my yard though

I love the name Maui for a horse, but it would have to be a very special horse.

I don't think it's bad luck to change an animal's name, I just think if they have had it a while it's their name!
