*whispers because Ellie is stood two metres away and would be very embarrassed if she knew I was discussing her toilet habits*

Ellie was turned out overnight for the first time on Thursday evening, so in total was out for 48 hours (brought in last night). But her poos have changed dramatically; they're dark green instead of lightish brown, and very cow patty, and VERY stinky

Now the grass we have is not particularly rich; in fact I would have said quite the opposite! I have also noticed that she seems to be pooing far less - she's been stood in the box all day today, and has pooed only 3 times (compared to an average of 8 or 9 when she's boxed normally). Is this normal? I've never really taken much notice before; I just want to check that it isnt upsetting her. She hasnt really got a runny tummy, its just far looser than 'normal' (although 'normal' for Ellie is rock hard)

*apologises to horse and gives her a big carrot*

LOL thank you! I thought it probably was normal, its just I cant remember her ever smelling as bad as this before! Our grass must be nicer than I thought!

Thats perfectly normal, the colour is normal because obviously the grass is green and hay/forage is yellow...its going to be runny because shes not used to eating so much lush/nutrisious grass or any grass for that matter! it will become better as she gets used to it.

Same here, Maiden has been on a fertilised patch for two days now (with muzzle) and my friend's non-horsey OH who kindly mucked out for me this evening was absolutely convinced we have had cows in the field with the horses recently! I was a bit embarrassed telling him no, it's only my horse!
