Changing a horses name on passport?

Have got a new horse coming (very exciting) but she's got a bit of an odd name so I wondered if I could change it on her passport at all? No big problem if not, but just wondered if it was possible. I just keep imagining it being said over the loud speaker at an event and it makes me cringe!

Whoever she's registered with will charge a fee (Irish horse board is 65€) and as long as the name isn't already registered, it should be ok.
 
If its a non registered horse with any breed society and its just been given a name to fulfil the legal requirement of obtaining a passport, give it a try but I'm guessing you will be charged silly money to do it.
If its registered with a breed society, please leave it alone unless its really horrendous.
Dedicated breeders of quality horses, especially those with a prefix, invest much time and money in producing their youngstock, to have the name changed, thus removing any recognition of their dedication is an insult.

Agree with this.

If its a generic non registered horse passport give them a call and ask. My pony was called Iwan when he arrived, the passport is with Pet ID (or somesuch similar generic-y name)I had the name changed for a low-ish fee - I cant remember if it was £10 or £20 but it wasnt much. They sent me a temporary passport by email to tide us over then sent the original back quickly with the name changed but the original name is in brackets after the new one
 
I bought a foal from France and the name the breeder had proposed had not been accepted but his 3rd choice one was. However when used in England the given name had very different meanings from the French and would not have been suitable for use in thsi country. I told the breeder, then sent the passport back to PIO
in France with some suggested alternatives (keeping the breeders suffix and the first letter of the name which denotes the year of birth) and they changed it free but it was within only a few weeks of the initial registration and it now shows on the French database under its new name but with 'born as' and its original name.
 
I changed my mare's name, it comprised three separate Spanish words which weren't pretty. She isn't PRE registered and I won't be breeding from her, so I decided to change to a Spanish shorter word with a meaning that suited her, Briosa, energetic or lively one.
