im interested to hearif anyone has ever changed a horses name/ particularly a passported name? - is it even possible?

i dont think its an ideal thing to be doing, but sometimes there are just times when you cant work with a name? Eg - your father/brother/husband is called Fred. Horse you wish to buy is called Fred

I know you can easily just change a stable name - but can you actually send off a passport to get it changed?

If not, does that mean when competing you should be using the passported name for the horse and you're basically stuck with it?

thank you

My horse didnt have a name on her passport, i was told it was Sally but after research was told her original name, Jucinta

i was so used to calling her Salls (i know to many Sallys!!) that i just kept it to that

and she answers to it now too
My welshies original name on his passport is nothing like his stable name and my other welshies name is a variation of her passported name (if that makes sense!!)

I changed the name on my horse's passport to include a prefix (her original passport just had her stable name on it). She has a BHS passport and it was really easy - I had to pay a bit but iirc it wasn't much. I had to send the passport in to them for them to add a new page with the new name on it.

She is registered with BD and BE under her full passport name - I think you have to use the passport name now anyway as they have tightened up on this.

You can get it changed...my horses are passported with the HPA...do it online, they send you a sticker to put over the top of the original name on the front of the passport. It cost a tenner.

Not having a go at you but how slovernly of the HPA that they don't even need to see and stamp the passport themselves so they have no idea to the legitimacy of what you are doing, just taking your word for it. The sooner DEFRA take away their status the better IMO.

The regulations say the original name of the horse has to remain on its passport so the sticker would be illegal. Referred this one to DEFRA.

It doesnt gofully over the original name.....and the horses unique ID is on the sticker to match the passport.

You have to do this online...its totally trackable to the registered owner and links up with NED.

Plus you couldnt put it on another horses passport either.....the numbers dont match.

ETA...the horses original name is also on the sticker in brackets......

.......better get un-referring.....seeing as you obviously didn't know the full facts....

That's a bit unfair to hangb when your original post of this did not give the full facts -

"You can get it changed...my horses are passported with the HPA...do it online, they send you a sticker to put over the top of the original name on the front of the passport. It cost a tenner".

..........didn't say any of that at all.

It's not surprising it was referred because usually HPA are such a tosspot firm and online alterations are just one of their problems. It still does not excuse them not actually seeing and doing the passport themselves though, very shoddy.

Most PIO's will change a name - for around £10 - and the original name will remain on the Passport, usually in brackets after the new name.

No it didnt...because the question was...can you change your horses name on the passport.

The quick answer was yes..da da da da da.......

If was going to jump the gun and refer anything to anyone then I would make sure I was in full possession of the facts- otherwise you just end up looking like an idiot.

Actually...I would prefer to do it online and then I'm not at the mercy of the even shoddier postal system. As I said in my post above.....all stickers/amendments have the horses unique ID on them so can't be used on any other passport.

Dont see the problem myself.
