Changing a horse's name

Bit of a strange one...
Potential project, mid teens horse, but not done much so still very green. That's fine, however his name is something you'd associate more with a cat or a rabbit and I'm really not keen! I don't think he knows his name as such, he just responds to interaction with people when he gets it. Would you change it, or grin and bear it?!

This is true, everyone has nicknames here, even the sheep! But for formal introductions....

Both of mine know theirs, and their pet names, but luckily their names aren't so... Naff!

I have 6 horses. 3 of them were called Harry. It didn't help that my son was called Harry also, so I changed their names, not my son's obviously!!! I now have 6 horses with different names and they all have at least one nickname.

It would be simpler just to drop the B and capitalize the R. Oh, maybe not the best for yelling up the field! Just drop the Br and capitalize the A

I have frequently changed stable names.

A neglected pony called Shrek became Xavier - new beginnings.

Amber and Lottie were from dealers who only gave me their passport names - so no idea what the original names were

Myka’s name didn’t suit her I didn’t think.

Stable names are just nicknames. I have no issue changing them.

Plus 3 ponies I sold had the name I used changed: Oscar became Ozzy, Toby became Lukey and Max became Charlie. I didn’t mind at all.

With names I always try to think what I would be comfortable shouting out loud whilst standing in a field with a head collar in my hand. If you don't want to have to shout Tiddles/Fluffy/Bunnykins in public, then change it. The horse won't mind.

Well as my lad is affectionately ‘occasionally’ called Floofball/Floofy in winter - I would never shout it up the field I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a horse called Fluffy - I’d be changing it too - how about Phee?

I’ve just changed names for one I’ve bought, or technically just named him.

At viewing stage we were told he had no stable name and no passport name, so we thought up a stable name for him. Turns out at the vetting he does have a passport name (so I guess I’ll keep that for BD) but no stable name, so have kept the one I gave him.
