where they feed haylage.

She is currently on soaked hay and I have about 5 more bales of hay left - not enough to last me until i move

I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything bad whilst moving horses from hay to haylage and if you would reccomend introducing this slowly?

I thought i may try and get a few nets of haylage to mix in with hay?

Or is this just being far to careful?

She is not the type who usually reacts badly to change in her diet, but i want to make sure i do the right thing!

p.s. do you like my new signature ?!!

I've never had any problems moving any horses onto haylage.

Your signature is lovely but it is waaaaay bigger than the guidelines given by HHO and people WILL ask you to make it smaller as it makes your posts very difficult to read.

Lovely signature! I always worry about changing to haylage as I always expect my girl to go whizzy but my friend feeds her youngster (at a yard) haylage all the time. I think it depends on how rich it is - you can get varying levels of richness and I, personally, would always go for the least rich.

Sorry, not much help but I expect there are some much more knowledgeable people about to reply!!

Our whole yard is fed haylage, that means that over 40 horses from all heights, ages, sizes are fed it. That is full TB's, retired cobs, Welsh sections, TB x and have never had any problems

We have recently moved yards where they feed haylage and although I would recommend you introduce it gradually, we didnt have that choice and did a straight change and ours have been fine. Think it also depends on the type of haylage aswell though. We are on Farmers haylage if that helps.

Ps. love the sig, bit big though!

We went from hay to haylege a few days ago. He got the runs a little bit but nothing awful.

He also seems quite lively at the moment, but he usually does at this time of year.

-changed the size of it!- not an easy task though!!

I think i will purchase some haylage instead of hay just to keep her going until she moves yards. That way at least i wont experience a surge of energy (new yard has much less turnout at the moment) when she moves.

I think the stuff at the new yard is very rich. there are two ponies on it which have become quite difficult for the children to ride since the turnout was limited.

thanks for the advice!

Ours were fine when we changed them, have been using the same farmer for years now - do you want his number, not a million miles away from you if you're buying in bulk - unless the yard you're moving to supplies it there?

Mine moved over this winter with no problems at all - I had to introduce a haynet tho (she was fed from the floor before) as she ate the haylage very quickly otherwise

I this my girl will woof it up! I am going to buy some off the yard to mix with the hay for the time between me running out and her moving to the yard.

That way i have done all i can to make to move easy for her!

-bet she dosent worry about me as much as i do her!-
