ok seeing as shavings are getting ridiculously expensive now and not worth the money im thinking of changing the yard to a different bedding - I have 3 options that i like the look of!!

which one do you think is better ??

what about megazorb, isn't it a paper based one? saw it at yhl and thought it looked good. made by same people as graze on. i chose easibed though as supposed to keep cost down, but never used myself!

i've been wondering the same with expensive shavings, but my concern is i like having high banks- how easy/ cheap is that to do with other beddings?? I imagine easibed would need several bales for the banks alone as "heavier and more compact" than fluffy shavings. oh, what to do!

I use Nedz BedZ Pro - it is like a chopped straw that has been treated. You can use it just the same as shavings. Infact - I mix mine with shavings occassionally. I have found it good stuff and it is cheaper than shavings !

You need 8-10 bales to start with for easi-bed. For huge banks I reckon you'd probably need an extra 2 bales. I don't have banks, but some on my yard do, and once established they don't tend to dig out the banks so they are very firm

.
My mum uses 3 bags a week, and pulls down her banks as the bed gets dirtier, then replaces them with a fresh bag.

I use the by-product shavings from the local sawmill which are predominantely pine, not dusty and completely free! I deep litter them as they are smaller than the conventional 'cornflake' shavings. Because I deep litter them if I get the odd dusty bag I just water them in with the hose pipe. My horses all have lovely deep beds and I don't have to watch what I'm using because they don't cost me anything.

I use miscanthus, (elephant grass). I pay £5.50. It is more absorbant than shavings, rots down well and doesn't move about like shavings.
