Hi all 👋🏻

I’ve recently purchased an ISH who doesn’t have a show name he is just down as unnamed.

We have thought of a name for him (Ready to Strike ~ as dad is Move to Strike, mum is That’s the Spirit)

If anyone has any other suggestions let me know ☺️

But how do I change his name on the passport? And is it the same place I’d send the passport for owners change of name?

Thanks in advance all 😄

I have literally just done this. I sent mine to HSI (who issued the passport) for renaming and change of ownership. They had it for nearly 2 months but got it back OK. I then sent it to IDHS to be overstamped now my horse is living in GB. They only had it for a few days, very quick.

I've a feeling that you can't do a horse name change via the place people have suggested above. My mare was unnamed on hers,I wanted to amend that it but I'm 99% sure that they have to go back to HSI for that & can't be done in uk. I sent my mares beginning of last year, it was back within a couple of weeks. I took copies of the pages before I sent it off.

Just remembered my mare was actually 'grey mare' on hers, people said I should've just kept that!🤣

All I’ll say is good luck - I’m over 6 weeks waiting for them to staple a simple piece of paper in to my passport & still no news. The people on the phones are lovely if you can ever get through but they can never help, requests for a call back from somebody that can fall on deaf ears, emails that they supposedly answered within 3 days are coming up to 3 weeks with no response 🙄 It never used to be like this, in the past it was about 7-10 days from posting it to getting it back.

They seem to be implementing new systems which perhaps are the cause & their website looks like they’ve now stopped taking new requests for everything which is pretty ridiculous given that owners are legally obliged to update some details - https://www.horsesportireland.ie/passports/naming-change-horse-name/

Would definitely be worth calling to find out what you need to do & make sure you’ve taken copies of all the important pages and send it signed for when you do post it.

With the current ‘flux’ about passports in HSI, I would hold off sending them anything for a little while. When things are settled they have a naming form that you can download and print. It gives you the option to pay for registered post for the passport return, so no need for you to buy any stamps. In the meantime check on the Irish Horse Register if the name is available. It’s a bit like Weatherbys, you won’t always get your choice.

They are a law unto themselves . So if you have an option in GB in the meantime, I would use until the HSI sort out their set up.

Thank you…this is really helpful. I also have an ‘unnamed’ but hadn’t got as far as thinking about what to do with it.

You can change the name via the British equestrian federation in a way. Basically the front page remains unnamed but the BEF registration sticker will include the new name. You can then use the new name in competitions.

Thanks for this. This is what I did but wasn’t sure it was competition legal!
