The horse i ride in currently wearing a grackle, i wouldn't say he is particularly strong but he does have a habit of 'chewing the bit' and being a bit heavy on the hand. I'd love advice on if i can stop those two problems but also i want to try a bit of showing and dressage next year and know i can't use this noseband or martingale.
What noseband could/should i try and how should i go about it??

I would try out a drop noseband -- if you can borrow one to try that's ideal, but they're by far my favourite noseband. More commonly seen in dressage of course is a flash noseband, but I'm not a fan as find the cavesson part needs to be tight on the sides of the jaw.

Yes for proper showing only a cavesson is allowed :)
I only show at local level and show in a snaffle and drop, as it's only a few times ayear for the hell of it ;)

you can have a grackle if you are comepeting in workers classes at shows, ive just swapped my boy out of a grackle with his double to just a crank noseband with a long shank weymouth on the bottom with the same effect

i have the same issue with dressage as i need a grackle when hes working in a snaffle
