If your horse was in at night usually, but the rest of the field (they usually live out 24/7) were out tonight and in tomorrow due to bad weather. Would you do the same?

Or keep her in her routine and probably keep her in tomorrow day (and night) because she hates the rain. Just means she will be in for 36 hours, although she’ll be lunged in the morning and ridden in the evening.

I know it’s good for them to be out as much as possible, just don’t want her running around which she does like to do!

I’ve always been set on ‘routine’ for all my horses but lots at our yard don’t, so this will happen regularly. I don’t think she’d be happy out alone.

I think you know your horse best - what's the lesser of the two evils? Being turned out alone for the whole of tomorrow, or being in for 36 hours with exercise?

Regarding routine, I do wonder whether we inadvertently train our horses to be used to whatever we prefer - so the horses on your yard that don't have a set routine might not mind, because they're used to things occurring at random times.

If it were one of my girls, I’d keep in as normal overnight but then probably keep in tomorrow aswell, but would get them out for an inhand walk/or ride.
A one off 36 hours in due to weather wouldn’t bother mine. If our yard gets dangerously icy, I sometimes have to do that for up to 48 hours.
I just stuff them with extra hay.
It does them good to get used to the odd thing out of routine.

I agree with Widgeon, ultimately I’d trust your gut.

I’m lucky to have my horses at home. Generally speaking we have a routine, but it’s not super rigid and if the weather’s unsafe to turnout or we have the farrier early doors they’ll stay in. None of them have ever been bothered by a slight change in routine, unless it means food is late 😄

I think she’s safer in, she runs about anyway (she is the creator of making the other oldies run about) so leaving her out over night might risk her doing that because it’s ’out of routine’ and turnout out tomorrow might also risk it. 🙈

I feel like she isn’t a straight forward horse, but you’re right. The others aren’t done at certain times, so not sure when they’ll owner might turn up where as mine knows!
