He had one interesting piece of advice, which I might try:

When turning your horse out, turn the horse to face the way that you've come in. Undo the headcollar, and then you walk away from your horse, not let your horse walk away from you.

I suppose it makes sense

Will try it as Dizz has taken to having a temperamental moment, whereas she always used to come to call. Will let you know how it goes

Cool. I tend to do that. Normally cuz i'm closing the electric tape gate so have to get my horse to turn around and face it so I dont lose the end of the leadrope! But it does make sense why that is the right way to do it. Unless you have an excitable horse that might rear up in your face, spin then gallop off.. I say that from experience. Not my lovely horse though

I remember my first ever riding school teaching me this - funny how stuff comes around. I have added the "rummage in pocket even if you haven't got anything, then back away at speed before she spins round and kicks off at a mad gallop up the field"
