That old monkey Channibar who refused to race in 3 of his previous races today run the race of his life to finish 2nd to French Opera.

Ridden today by Sam Twiston Davies he never looked like refusing to race and run sweetly the whole way in the Bet365 Celebration Chase.

Amazing, what can have made the difference do you think?
For me, performance of the day was Poker de Sivola, I always follow him because of the grey in his tail!!, and good to see the old favourites parade and the trophies awarded.

Wasn't that the most amazing win!

Ive never seen a horse refuse to start before - what do they do? nap backwards big style - and boy if they do they have done well to get him going so well - i watched the raise as i picked up interest when they said it was his "last chance" and he seamed to really enjoy his ride

Horses refuse to race in different ways. Some run back, some just stand stock still as the others go past them, others refuse to turn round and face the same way as the other horses and then others again spin round and plant themselves in the wrong direction when the tape goes up.

Flat horses refuse by not going into the stalls, not coming out of the stall or jump out but stop going forwards pretty quickly until they are so far behind the jockey gives up and has to find a way to get the horse back to the parade ring - either riding or leading.

I had one refuse to race and we couldn't even get him back from the start. In the end he had to be shunted into the horse ambulance and driven back - he came off the trailer oh so smug with himself at the fact that he really did do NO work at all that day!

And they say racehorses just follow the pack mindlessly - I wish some had told him that!
