For me, not the horse! :) What do you find best for sore or dry lips in this weather? I have a vaseline lip balm but it's not made a huge difference, i've heard good things about Burt's Bees - had a quick looks on eBay but there are loads of different types!

Make sure you drink plenty of water, central heating really dries your skin out at this time of year. I have a chap stick in every coat I own as well as in the car, and keep putting it on!

As above, drink lots of water.

I have different lip balms all over the place (everyone who gets in my car laughs because there's probably about 10 in sight- I'm not obsessive, I just lose them and then they turn up).

One in my yard coat, and I use it before I get to the yard and when I'm done.

Touch wood- so far no chapped lips!

I too have lip balms / chap sticks everywhere. I had a Burt's bees one for Christmas, it works well but I can smell honey they whole time I've got it on and it makes me really hungry!

I like the Norwegian Formula one, or good old Vaseline.

How are your nose and sinuses? I'm prone to stuffed nose/sinuses due to allergies, and the main thing I've found is that chapped lips go together with mouth breathing. So long as my nose is fine, I don't have a problem with chapped lips. My favourite brand chap stick is Lavera Basis Sensitiv, but I have to import it from Germany anytime I'm there ;-)

someone gave a tip before about putting a lot of vaseline or lip balm on your lips as you go to bed, as it can soak in overnight easier

As above I use the vaseline tin one at night. The rest of the time I use sticks I have a babylips one at work and a nivea one I leave up the yard. I have started taking it out hacking and periodically smothering my lips in it mid ride- this has helped a lot. Now just need to find something for my face and hands which are like sandpaper at the minute!

avoid vaseline i find its more a barrier and doesnt actually moisturize. Carmex is brilliant, you could also try coconut oil! Im currently using one my dad got from his work (he works for the council and always gets freebies) and its a mix of coconut oil and shea butter and its brill.

My friend who is a doctor told me I shouldn't use Vaseline, I'm not entirely sure why, I think as above its more of a barrier than something that actually helps. I now use Carmex which is really good. I am quite obsessive about it though, I've got tubes of the stuff everywhere, my parents are always moaning that I leave them all around their house (I don't even live there).

I have two burts bees lip balms. One is plain and it BURNS when I put it on but seems to work. I have that one in the bathroom.
The other one is a red colour, it's in the car and I use it a lot.
I also have vaseline and nivea ones in different coats.

Hand cream I bought a bottle of vaseline hand cream. It's good stuff

I have a bunch of Burts Bees ones and they all seems to do a decent job and pretty easy to find in Boots.

I also love the EOS ones but I know you can't easily/cheaply get them here in England

I got bought l'occitane set one christmas and the lip balm is amazing it's lasted 2years so far and gives a healthy gloss too .... maybe not the type suitable around hay or horsehair tho!!!!! Might start looking like a wax is needed!

Carmex! Used loads of others, and Carmex is the one that really works. It has aspirin as an ingredient, and burns a bit when you first out it on, but it is extremely effective.

The down side is that it seems addictive, and I too have little pots all over, by the bed, infront of the TV, in handbags, in pockets....

I buy it in bulk from Amazon.

Not only are my lips chapped but my face is chapped, red, sore and flaky all over. :( It's making me quite miserable.

I usually use the vaseline tin or my lips but it disappears within seconds and doesn't help at all. I'm allergic to all moisturisers but have started using Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse dry oil which helps a bit.

Is there a particular ingredient you are allergic to southerncomfort? I get eczema on my face which can be hellish at this time of year so I feel your pain!

For lips I steer well clear of Vaseline, it will not help! If really bad I often use sudocrem at night and l'occitane or Liz Earle during the day, also have a great Danish lip balm that I stock up on when visiting.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I will go for the carmex as suggested by most :)

I also rode with a lady who bought chapstick with her on a ride and applied mid hack - I think it would end up, up my nose if I tried that on my welsh monster!

Have you tried the Simple range? Only suggesting as I was on accutane a few years back and it dried my skin out and made it so sensitive to the point I had bleeding sores and sunburn at Christmas, in the South which is a feat! Anyway the best thing I found was to use a small amount of simple moisturiser mixed with that green aloe vera stuff you buy for sunburn and a dab of pure vitamin E oil, it didn't hurt and it helped my skin heal :)

There is an ingredient in some lip balms (can't remember what it is so not overly helpful) that dries your lips out more so you buy more. It feels like it works at first then after a short time your lips feel worse.
