Grrrr, feeling very cross this morning. My old chaps, which had seen me through about 5 years of hard wear sadly gave up the ghost just after christmas. The bit that goes under the foot broke off and the stiching came away from the zip

so I retired them with great sorrow and treated myself to a pair of Just Chaps at Badminton this year.

Last night as I put the new ones on, the zip broke - the whole metal clasp thing came right off in my hand

I've only had them since May.

no point getting them fixed as zips are so expensive so I need to urgently replace my chaps.

Any recomendations for brands that I can buy online? My only requirement is that they must be brown or black, HARDWEARING but resonably smart. Oh and I don't really want to spend more than £30 cos they'll be yard chaps.

Yes my Mum's just bought a pair of Shires chaps for £15 - she says they're great. I've got a pair of Treadsteps which were really expensive and have fallen apart - just goes to show chaps never last anyway so i reckon you may as well just buy cheap ones!!

I've got some loveson 'suede effect' ones and they seem to be as tough as old boots. Especially as the zip is slightly under pressure as I don't have the slimest calves!

I love my Gibbons chaps.
They are a bit more than £30 but i have had mine for about 5 years if not more and they are still going strong!! I actually think they may last for ever!!
I'm not entirely sure where you can get them as i got mine from a local tack shop years ago but i imagine some online one does. Im sure i have seen then nline somewhere just not sure where!!!

I have cheap Shires leather-look ones, they're wearing really well and come up good as new in the w/machine. They were about £15, I bought them from Rideaway. Fairly smart...

Hi, thanks everyone, I have gone for the Loveson ones which I *think* could have been the ones I had orriginally. I managed to find them for just under £30 including delivery from Mole Valley!!!!

Super advice, I love HHO!

Dublin ones. Mine were about £15 and they've lasted me a year so far, have been in deep thick mud and the likes.

Zip did break when a pony escaped and I got it caught on the lockers at the RS that are in the feed room (pony charged there and I got knocked out the way ect ect) Saddlers replaced them without a question even though they had a good coating of mud. I like them as they're comfy but with chaps its pretty much what style you want, your budget and what you find comfy!!

Can't beat tredstep. Mine last approx 3yrs a pair, worn for all yard work, mud etc. plus riding 3 a day and the only ones I can get in long/narrow fitting (can get long/fat calves easily but not long/thin calves). That makes 80 quid seem cheap to me.

I have the Loveson ones aswell, they have been fab, the extra layer on the calf is coming off but they have lasted me ages, they even survived when the accidently found their way into HHs washing mashine!
