Anyone any thoughts on whether neoprene half chaps or leather are best? Its just for hacking. I dont compete so really doesn't matter what they look like

I have worn Tuffa suede leather half chaps for years and they have lasted well. My winter boots are warm-lined Mountain Horse and I have the Mountain Horse smooth suede half chaps that fit over them.
I like genuine leather for both me and the horse - the only exception being knotted rope head collars for ground work.

Got sweaty legs in neoprene 😅
Leather takes some braking in.

I have cheapo suede and mesh ones for years they've been up mountains in Mongolia, they don't look great but they're so comfy.

Leather. They will mould to your shape (and are more comfortable during the process than new long boots.....)

PS on the smartness etc - saw that the hunter champion's rider at a county show was wearing leather chaps a few years back 🙂 - admittedly they were a 'name', we particularly noticed the legwear as I wear chaps.

Depending on your size, I have 2 pairs you could have (free as I no longer ride), brown Ariats and black Tredsteps?
