I just got one of these - it was comfortable when I tried it in the shop. However it marks by forehead leaving a line like a sock mark. It’s not painful but tonight nearly 6hrs after I took the hat off I still have a line which is a real nuisance as this is intended as my every day hat and they aren’t cheap at £170. Anyone else finding the same?

Not at all - and with the cut away patch at the forehead to leave mark this must be seriously too small. You need to go back to the shop and re-check the fit.

I have one and it sometimes leaves a red mark on my forehead too but the mark disappears fairly quickly. I have had mine about 8 months. It certainly does not feel tight. I was wondering if its the way my hair is done ( I sometimes twist a middle portion and put metal hair clips.

they don't suit everyone, I had high hopes but no chance of it going on my head. I would also query the fitting giving that you are having the problem this hat is designed to avoid!

Like ester says, it may be the wrong shape for your head? I had a gatehouse HS1 fitted professionally, I had my doubts how tight it felt but was assured that was only cos it was in comparison to my old hat which would have felt too loose after bedding down (my old hat wasn’t even old unbeknown to them). Anyway I lasted about 10 minutes on a hack before bailing out lol. I have a very oval shaped head (almost a rectangle lol) and normally I get fitted to a Charles Owen, so maybe if you have a rounder head you could try the HS1? Or thinking about it I’m sure there are 2 types of 4star- either oval or round but not sure if I dreamt that?!

It seems to be the elastic bit that closes up the air vent that’s the problem. I had it properly fitted they said I needed to go down a size from what I normally had. I was hoping it would get better as I wore it but it hasn’t. I have one of the glitter Charles Owen hats that’s fine. My previous skull cap was the gatehouse one that left a dent on my forehead . They told me they won’t exchange it but suppose I should go back and at least try to get a discount on a replacement

Worth a try, good luck! So hard to know when trying it on how it will feel in the longer term. I sent mine back and got a full refund which I wasn’t expecting!

Puff, no there are two types of the PROII (what I went for instead).

They have also changed the fitting slightly of the HS1, I've had two previously but they seem to have made it lower at the back now and when I tried my usual size on at Burghley I couldn't get it down on my head at all!

DebP I think I would possibly ask CO for advice, take some photos as it seems to be part of their design rather than it is being uncomfortable and ask them if it should happen. CO should have done staff training at any retailers.

FWIW I used to hate fitting hats, it is a bit of an art rather than a science which is why I tend to shop at shows where I can speak to each brands staff who know their full stock rather than shop assisstants

I'm on my second one as I loved the first so much. However, the newest one is at the 'red line' stage still after a month or two's wear. I had to go down a size from other CO hats when I moved on to this model, it feels snug but not 'headachey' tight. It's definitely worth speaking to CO to see what they think...

Thanks
Cornish did you get this with both of yours and it got better with wear? I’ve only had it 2 weeks so far.
The shop put some tape in to tailor the fit might give them a call to see it’s ok to peel it back out.

Yes, the first one felt 'snug' too for an initial period, but now (about 3 yrs on) it's a bit loose, so be wary of going too big - it's got to sit in the right place and not slip around. I really do rate these hats, only replaced it as will be doing more jumping on younger horse this year and it does give that feeling of protection.
