Quick question - I currently have a Charles Owen fixed peak, probably 5 or 6 years old and I'm thinking it might be time to replace it. So - here is my very, very vain question - are there any CO hats that have a slightly lower profile so I don't look so much like a Halloween pumpkin in photos? I was also thinking that perhaps a skull cap would be better, as the silk peak sits higher up and might tone down the general bobblehead look (or at least my face wouldn't have a shadow across it). It's "only" for hacking, but I regularly ride all day so it has to be comfy and not a sweat-fest.

I'll probably stick with CO, as I know they fit me and they're relatively inexpensive, but suggestions for other similar-fit makes would be useful too. We don't have any one big tack shop near us, just several small ones, so I need an idea of what I want before I go expending precious diesel trekking around them all.

what exactly do you mean by a lower profile? im not really sure how you can find a lower profile helmet that just a standard plain fixed peak or skull cap.

i definitely think skull caps are even more noticeable on their own unless you’ve got a hat silk to go with it

i currently have charles owen yr8 black sparkle and love it, it doesn’t really sound like what you’re looking for though

Yes, although it depends which Charles Owen you have now. Some of their range is designed for a traditional showing style and much more domed than others

I have a CO Pro II and it's not bad in terms of profile. Skulls definitely work best imo. I like to distract a bit further with a pom pom silk.

The Pro II Plus is super low profile - I adore mine!

Thank you both, this is exactly what I needed to know - I'll try this one first then. And a washable headband sounds like a very good idea!

Not sure what the actual model name of my current one is but it's similar to the Ayr8 in that it's black and grey, peaked, and has a contrast strip up the middle. It's definitely a kiddie one because it has the Thelwell lining - I only paid about £80 for it, but that was probably at least five to seven years ago (hence the need for a new one).

ETA I've never had a skull cap and am childishly excited by the prospect of pom pom silks
