Charles Owen to cease UK Production

Well that’s clear as mud and not wishy washy at all…

It sounds perhaps like different employees (perhaps working in slightly different parts of the business) are putting a different spin on things depending on who they’re speaking to if sponsored riders appear to be being given a different story re future of UK production to what retailers are being told.

From the statement itself it does make it sound like it’s intended to be a temporary pause but definitely leaves wiggle room to turn it into a permanent one

I guess the only party capable of providing proper clarity would be Charles Owen themselves by releasing a statement to the public through their own social media with clearer wording re if they are completely phasing out all UK produced designs or if some may crop up again at a later date, possibly produced elsewhere. Given how this has blown up it does seem odd they haven’t done so.

what size and colour do you want?

dial hats are not affected
The question was are they stopping manufacture of non-dial hats.
I’m on my 2nd CO MIPS jockey skull. It fits me and I’m likely to want to replace like with like in the future.
I’m not clear from their statement as to whether non-dial hats will stop being produced, either temporarily or permanently.

No they won’t be stopping the dial hats. Or any new releases they have already announced. These are all outsourced and will continue as normal (well with expected delays taking into consideration they are having to move, and we already suffer delays on getting stock in)

It’s most of their other hats, YR8, AYR8, PRO II, Fian, halo, Luna, JS1, 4 Star i can’t remember the full list
I have had confirmation they are not relocating the manufacturing equipment so going forward no hats will be made in the UK.

I suspect as everyone has gone down the same road, dail hats are the future, the traditional hats won’t be available, as far as I can find, champion are the only ones now making a more traditional hat. Every other hat company just does dails.

This is actually really concerning if only dial hats will be available.

I teach vet students, and we’ve had major H&S issues with dial hats and tail hair catching in dials when working with hind limbs. We’ve thus banned students using hats with dials as PPE.

CO was our go to for our own work hats.

Well that sounds more like they are not even going to bother manufacturing in uk now and are done with that side.

I’ve ended up panic buying a back up MIPS halo after CO confirmed the models manufactured in the UK won’t continue once the remaining stock has sold. They did go on to say they may “reinvent and relaunch them at an appropriate time in the future” but I didn’t want to risk not being able to replace my current hat when needed.

Yes, vaguely feeling the same as mine is a showing hat and there’s not a huge amount of selection of nice ones of those and looking at the age of my current one it probably is due a replacement

A 6 7/8 in navy. Eileen Douglas was the only place i could find. I ordered one. I would have preferred not to buy on line and get it fitted locally. I am going to ask my local tack shop if they will fit it for me.

*Sigh* guess I shall be ordering a new hat for Xmas then to delay having to find another brand that fits my head shape (current one probably in need of replacement anyway!)
