Charlie who I have only owned for two months and is such a super horse to have around is currently in hospital. :(

On Monday I took him through as I was worried about his wound (kicked 3 weeks ago) wasn't healing and he was fluctuating between lame and perfectly sound.

On Sunday he went lame again, spoke to vet and booked him in for yesterday to have a scan/x-rays - thought maybe a fragment/sequestrum perhaps.

Anyway vets looked and found that not only does he have a fragment, but that the infection has tracked into his elbow joint :( :( gutted is not the word.

So Monday night, he went into theatre. Arthoscopy showed the cartilage didn't look too bad and they removed alot of fibrous material, lavaged the joint and debrided the wound. Once into recovery they called to say it all depended on his joint tap on Wed

So joint tap yesterday showed the cell count was down but that his wound is still infected and pus filled. Still a tiny step forward with his joint but he is still at high risk :(:(. If (and at he moment its a big 'If':() they can get the infection under control then he stands a good chance. Not even wanting to think about 'if not'.

Have cried alot, and couldn't put this on here until today. I'm just so gutted. please send more healing vibes.

I think anyone who doesn't have their horses insured, should seriously consider it. I'm glad I did.

Oh, I'm sorry :( Fingers crossed it all goes well and he makes a full and speedy recovery afterwards too.

Sorry to hear about his injury, sending massive healing vibes to Charlie. Hope the infection comes under control very soon x

Very sorry to hear this - all bendy things crossed that they get the infection under control. You couldn't possibly have predicted this, it looks MILES form the joint :(

so sorry :( Not a good week for the HHO horses. Fingers crossed the arthroscopy has done the trick and the joint is safe and things go ok now.

Aw hon Im so sorry it wasnt better news :( All spare digits are crossed for him. He looks nice and bright in the pictures and you know he's in the best place possible. **Hugs** from us Sx

U have all the positive & healing vibes I can muster up.....

He's lovely and I wish hem the speediest & most pain free recovery. Like u said, good job u have him insured. I cant understand why anyone wouldnt but they still do! I hope the fact that your financially covered is taking some of the stress out of the situation x

That is just the most utter bad luck possible:( and who would have thought a kick would have turned into that?

Sending lots of healing vibes that things heal as they should.
