Went to Charlton Park yesterday for PN - her last 3 runs were novices and I wanted to finish the season with a fun time at Charlton and then going to Aldon PN3DE.

Good dressage - very pleased with her scored 34.8 which was about 9th or 10th - some fab scores in my section - Pippa won on 19.1 - makes you sick doesn't it!!!!!!!!

Then pony was VERY naughty in the showjumping and smashed down 3 for no reason at all. I don't think she was trying very hard because it was so much smaller than the novices she's done. She didn't make any effort at all, had lovely strides to all 3, softened the hand and she smashed them. I was VERY cross - there was no need for it. Her SJ is the weak link, but if she makes mistakes and there is a reason for it I don't mind - but that was just lazy!

Anyway, on to xc. Just as I was warming up to go xc with 2 to go before me there was a hold of almost an hour and half. There were loads of us up at the start in the end, all freeeezing cold! Eventually got to go xc and she was mega as always. Clear inside the time, made nothing of it. Would have been third if she'd showjumped clear, but finished way down the order with the fences down.

Am going to have some serious jumping sessions before Aldon and then spend the winter working on it. She was getting cocky and towing me a bit to the fences so will do plenty of gridwork and hope she leaves them up at Aldon!

All in all a mixed day - is so frustrating when her dressage and xc are so fab that the showjumping is going to let us down.

Well done on the dressage and xc. As you say with a bit of work you should be able to improve the SJing a lot sounds like she is getting a bit cocky. She may show jump better at Aldon with the SJing on the last day.

Did they say why it was the last Charlton Park?

Well done Mel - do you wish you had done the novice or were you pleased that you dropped down?
Did you manage to meet up with Cheeky Girl?

She was flat as a pancake. I think I need to be getting deeper to the fences and making her work harder. She thinks it is all a bit easy. My worry with Aldon is with SJ on last day she'll be even flatter after steeplechase and xc! Oh well, no idea what will happen, just going to have to work on it as much as I can and hope for the best! Was suggested that I might try a stronger bit so she isn't running through the hand as much so I can be softer on the approach to the fence. Not sure - need to have a play! Grids and bounces and pole work is in order me thinks!

It is the last one because Lord Suffolk has signed a contract for a 15 year (or 10 maybe?!) deal to run WOMAD and making so much more money doing that they no longer want to run the horse trials. It heard a rumour that it may be re-sited though...not confirmed yet and won't be actually in Charlton Park, but local still and run by the same people so would still be fab.

Yes I wish I had done the novice, but the owner wouldn't entertain the idea!

No didn't manage to meet up with Cheeky Girl - although I know she was winning prizes - very impressive!

Plenty of grids and bounces and she will be fine at Aldon.

Would be great if they re sited close by with the same team a bit like Bicton so fingers crossed. May see you at Aldon might go up and watch one day.

I'm really looking forward to Aldon - am going with a friend now and I expect we are going to have a riot! Of course we will take the competing very seriously...! Her horse is a terror in the dressage and Hen will probably be terrible in the SJ so it could be quite entertaining!

You must come and say hello if you come to Aldon! I never seem to meet anyone from here!

I am going to Aldon on the Sunday to watch actually a bit peed off as wanted to walk the 1* course and intermediate but its on the Fri/Sat which is very irritating. Oh well bloomin work.

What a shame about the sj. When Moon gets cocky I often dont jump her for a couple of weeks. When I then do jump her at home I just jump a few steep crosses mixed in with flatwork so that she doesnt start to anticipate and run on into them. It seems to work but is a bit of a risky method!!

Moon would have a much better natural technique than Hen does, so I really need to work on the technique as well as she is not dropping her head and is having the fences behind.

aw shame about the SJing! But great in the other parts.
Pippa good young ones look pretty impressive wiping the board of PN sections with 2 sub 20 dressage scroes OMG!
You must have been shuffed with the dressage!

frustrating about the SJ, but as you say hopefully she'll pick her feet up at Aldon, and then you'll have all Winter to play about with it before shes out next year.
