Well, back home after a fabulouso day at Charlton Park - very sad it is the last one ever.

Dressage, we will gloss over that and reflect on the fact that as I went in straight after Harry Meade I was always going to look shabby! 42, which is average for us, and TBH the comments were all about engagement, which is not consistent at home so I can't expect it to be at an event really. The judge did say we were a happy partnership though, which is nice (my winning smile down the CL clearly was noted this time!!).

SJ - jumped beautifully until fence 6, when he just lost focus, came in a bit backward and had it, then I smacked him as the oxer at 7 was ig and on a long stride - he had it with his back feet (lazy!) and one down in the triple, which was not riding well all day as the distances were very odd in it. We consoled ourselves with the thought that the first half was lovely, the nicest he has gone, and that Daisy Dick also had 3 down!

Then XC. Having walked it (highlight of the day - as I was pondering the bounce, WFP said hello to me - yes, I am very sad!), I decided that today was the day to ask him all the questions, as were so far out of the running I would mind less about a 20 if it were educational. Well he stormed round - 1 and 2 were v easy, 3 was a double of roll tops with the second on a curving line - came back beautifully and skipped through, 4 a big rail oxer - flew it, 5 a palisade with drop on landing, I bought him back and he came back too much so a growl got him over, then the bounce - he got through but it surprised him! Then the water, skipped over the rail bold as brass, through, up the step ond over the log without me doing much at all! Then a bullfinch into the woods which backed him off a bit, trakhener out, which he looked at but popped nicely. Long gallop across a field to a corner (rails) with a pheasant feeder on a sharp left after it. They were numbered seperately so you could circle, but no need for that, and on o the hay wagon. Then a rail with a 90 degree turn to a skinny house, easy as you like, double of tables then 90 turn to a triple brush, flew through, a big downhill hedge (hunting seat adopted for reasons of security by rider!), log, double of logs (angled first one, straight to second one), a table and home!

He was absolutely awesome - I thought last weekend was good, but this was even better! He was so easy to ride, there was none of our usual 'haul, kick and hope for the best' round curving lines, he came back easily and went direct at every fence. I was so pleased with him, as CP is not small! Came home with 15 time, which considering the last 2 have had 30, is a massive improvement. Good pony!

Well done you, sounds like a fantastic xc round. And nice that you were right that he'd be much, much better over bigger tracks!!

Thankyou! Yes, he is so much easier to do everything with - even his dressage is easier, it just lacks sparkle as he is finding the step up quite hard. It is nice that all the people who thought I was bonkers and he needed to stay at PN till he got placed (which would be the year after never!) were wrong!

What a fantastic way to finish your season

Now lots of BD and BSJA over the winter for you!

Please Miss, can I still go to Broadway?

Yes, he is lined up to do a LOT of SJ and some dressage(not as much coz I can't afford BD!).

I feel so positive about him, and his chances next year, that I will be working very hard over the winter (hopefully not as hard as him, but he is a master at energy conservation!).

PS - Jemanji, thankyou too!

How about you come and teach B to be a proper dressage pony?!

No, I will, once my season is properly over!!!

How about sometime over half term week? Planning on going home to Wales so I could do a little detour for a night on the way there or back!

Well done thats great news! sounds like he was a star! how did the distance walk between the corner to the phesent feeder? thought it was a long 2, did it ride ok? and the two tables to the brush did you do the shorter route? thought that looked better than the option? Just got back from walking the course and it seems a decent size so you must be really pleased with B!

Corner to Pheasant feeder rode fine - I set up for the corner in such a way that I could obviously go straight on and circle without presenting if he jumped in awkwardly or huge, but he skipped through - I did not stride it for that reason as I knew we'd either be ok, or not! Mind you he can do things like the pheasant feeder from trot so i knew he could get us out of trouble if needed as long as I kept my leg on.

The tables, yes, took the shorter route, again rode fine, no hassle. Frankie is easier to turn than B too! My theory again was I could circle if needed as the brush was numbered separately, so I may as well take the easy route through the tables!

You'll have a blast, it is a fab course, rode really well! Good luck.

Bit disappointed actually - one XC at the table, I look like a pleb, two SJ, ok but nothing special. So I still do not have a pic of me at Novice level!

He is Beth - XC at least! One day the dressage will improve, I suppose at least it isn't getting worse! He felt very ridable and grown up today, really focussed on the job and what I wanted. I think hitting that fence at Goring was a bit of a shock for him!

That was brilliant! I can feel your confidence zinging off the page / screen, when you describe it like that it all seems so easy (although, of course, it is not!) Well done to both of you!

Brilliant, welldone

Sounds like the jumpings all there, and with some Winter dressage you'll be sorted for next season. It is weird finishing the last one of the year though!

Very well done - it sounds like the course was identical to last year apart fom fence 3, and I had a lovely round there on a gren horse, I think it's one of those all-too-infrequent courses that looks hard but rides well whilst teaching them a lot.

Thanks guys! T_E I think the course at Bricky last week gave him so much to think about in terms of skinnys and turns and angles, that he was quite relieved at CP that it was mostly big bold fences! He doesn't lack scope or bravery, just gets far too cocky and ignores me. It was good to feel how much he'd improved in terms of sticking to his line this week, so I think he is learning!

Now to sort the dressage out - no point in having a fabby XC horse if you are always at the bottom of the pile due to shoddy dressage....(though equally as someone said to me, no point in doing a 22 dressage if you can't get round the XC!).
