PLEASE HELP!!! On monday im doing a chase me charlie class on my little welsh loan but she takes off early at jumps a lot and runs out sometimes. with the running out its mainly at really small jumps or because she thinks she can get away with it. my instructor always tells me ride her into the next jump exactly the same so she womt realise it's different except she'll know to go higher. although i'm quite worried about the early take offs as she'll knock the higher ones. does any one have any suggestions???

Your job is to get her to the fence - her job is to jump it. Focus on a good rhythmic forward canter. Give her a good straight approach so she has time to see the jump and see what she has to do. Keep your legs on firmly so she is channeled between your legs and hands nice and straight at the fence. Make sure you are balanced so if she is a little early you can stay with her - ponies can jump massively more than their own length so she probably knows what she needs. After that - she has to do the work! Good Luck.

That is good advice

Nothing to add except remember this is what you do for fun and even if it doesn't go perfectly it's an experience you and pony have gained. Try to enjoy it. Good luck!

There's no point trying to haul yourselves over the biggest jumps possible when you can't even sort out a rhythm over small jumps or avoid having refusals. It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen!

If I were you I would scrap the big fences for now and work on the horse's technique and you being able to see a stride.

Great advice so far, just to add, as it's a chase me charlie don't push it. If your pony is doing really well give her a pat and call it a day rather than push to go higher and higher as that's when you can go backwards and lose confidence. I hope you have a fun time :)
