Tickets for the horse trials next year are now avaliable, they are slightly cheaper too if bought beforehand! This year they are running over 3 days (Friday 13th - Sunday 15th May) and have a CIC* alongside the usual CIC***, as well as Jean Francois Pignon doing his display on all three days and they have have a new members area.
Have a look at www.chatsworth.org/horsetrials

I think the CIC* star could be quite popular, I've always wanted to compete here but never managed to, i'd love to aim for this in the future. Who else would love to do this?

(Sorry for the blatant plug but one of the organisers asked me to put it on here as they want to get as many people there as possible, I'm just doing my daughterly duty!)

I like the increase in CIC* dates generally and love the novice track there, always old-fashioned but with enough technicality so that it's not a walk in the park (quite literally!).

Won't have my horse ready for the CIC* by then but might chance the Nov if things go well.

What's the novice course like at Chatsworth - I'm ashamed to say I haven't to watch at Chatsworth for a good many years. I'm wanting to move up to Novice with my 5 yo (she will be 6 by then). Don't want to do one before as doing the BE100 at the Grassroots champs in April and don't want to make a mess of one and lose her (and my) confidence before Badders. I've looked at the course pics on Eventing worldwide website and it looks quite nice but difficult to see what the undulations etc are like - A trip round Chatsworth would be a dream come true but is it ok for a first time Novice or should I head to Richmond or Skipton first? Advice would be appreciated.

By the way - OP - I will be going to watch this year anyway!!!!! Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't recommend Chatsworth as a first time Novice I'm afraid. It's well up to height with decent technicality and it's certainly not flat! ;)

The SJ is in the main arena with lots of tradestands and grandstands - definitely 'atmospheric'!

I haven't been to Skipton or Richmond but understand that Richmond would be good for a young first timer. Gamebird would be the lady to tell you about the Yorkshire events :)

That is my aim for first half of 2011!! I did it in 2005 on my old horse barney and it was like doing badminton (in my head!) as it is our most local event and have been going as a spectator for years! Have had a good year of BE100's this year and hope to step up for May 14th!!
Also, well done for daughterly duties ;) the new schedule looks fab, an inter hunt relay is a brilliant idea for the friday, can't wait!! x

Our absolute number one favourite event of the whole season (and within hacking distance from home!!) the CIC* is a fantastic addition for us and it's just a wonderful event, top sj track, top xc course, just the whole thing is marvellous!!!! Can't wait!!!

My life ambition was to do the novice at Chatsworth (which I managed this year, 1 pole SJ, clear XC all straight routes and was placed!!) it was mine and my horses 3rd novice. Beautiful course, although I think I was rather pale before I set of XC! The course rode brilliantly even though some part were fairly technical and twisty.

My new realistic life ambition will now be the CIC* (what a relief, I was pretty worried about my new ambition jumping straight to badminton!)

I did the novice there last year as my and my horses second (i think) novice. The cross country is lovely, although it seems big and bold it rode really nice. The showjumping is very busy with lots going on and they rush you in and out. A great experience and look forward to doing one of the courses (intermediate novice or 1*) next year.
