Hi,
im thinking of having a go at the novice track at chatsworth but not sure what to expect or whether it will be suitable. This will be his 3rd season at novice & he usually (touch wood) is a solid jumper (only one stop so far!!)
I plan to have 2PN runs (double clear at kelsall on sunday

) & a novice run at bradwall beforehand.
Does anyone have any advice/views or any pics of lasy years track.

Its big but beautiful and will be the nicest Novice course you ever jump (and i've jumped a fair few!!). Every fence is so well built that although they may appear bigger due to being solid they're actually more jumpable and more inviting. The crowds and sense of occasion really add to the atmosphere, my poor boy nearly died going down to the 2nd water last year when there were crowds on both sides of the course wiht umbrellas but its great (and my local event!!). Do need a fit horse though.

The SJ is in a main arena with grandstands etc so again sense of occasion but di boddy's courses always jump well.

I would recommend going without a doubt!! (but remember its miles from lorry park to SJ!!)

Will find some pics

thanks!! Pics would be brill so i could see for myself. What are the SJ course like? are they all upto height?
Is there a novice course with similar style/size jumps on the calender. I usually do rodbaston that week & so it means dropping that track to do this which is why i want to make sure i choose the right one!

Look forward to seeing the pics!!

Good lord, your horse looks so much like mine I had to look twice then!

I always go to watch Chatsworth since its just down the road and it always looks enormous to me! But Im a dressage person and to be fair, 2 foot looks huge to me :|

Echo the post regarding the sense of occasion though, its a fabulously staged event and it always pulls in the crowds.

My boy went round year before last (not with me mind!) and did well

If you can get there, I'd definitly go, Im sure you'll have a fantastic day.

i'm trying to do similar to you 2 PN runs, Bradwall N then Chatsworth N.
did same last year but did Bradwall then Aston unfortunatly hit water fence and chipped stifle rest seaon out so going Chatsworth instead - however looking at that photo of water i am now not sure!!

i went schooling at somerford on sunday are any of those fences part of the BE event? i'm planning to do Chatsworth N but after hitting 2nd water at Aston last May your photo into water looks bit daunting.
I jumped what i thought were big fences at Somerford just hope we're prepared...... will go for lesson at Aston before first N at Bradwall i think.....

the schooling ground at somerford is nothing to do with the actual cross country course!
The course there is of decent size & really well presented, i wouldnt call the novice track a 1st timer if that helps!!

thanks - i did Bradwall as first novice last year and thought that was quite big?? went clear all but hesitation at water.... then Aston where went wrong..... he is bold so size won't be problem just be the technicality and water that may bring up questions...... he is only 7 and only did 3 events last yr and 1/2 season prior to that

I prefer Somerford to Bradwall as Bradwall starts of quite big and then gets easier IMO. Then again, I only got halfway round before I fell off and broke my arm

Somerford is quite big with a few techincal questions but its so well built and presented that it jumps really. They are changing the course this year though so I don't know how different it will be...

oo glad someone else thought it was big and i wasn't just being wossey, Bud was only 6 and had only 1 PN outing and 6 previous season so quite inexperienced.... not done Somerford BE jsut schooled there alot.
Are you doing Bradwall this year? which fence did you fall at?? ouch sounds v painful!!

You'll really like Somerford BE, most people do! I am doing Bradwall this year but only PN before moving up to Novice at Somerford. It wasnt at the BE event at Bradwall but PC area HT and we fell at something like fence 8. Its a roll top with a drop on the landing side before you turn left to a sunken road combination? He overjumped it, I lost my balance and came off and because the ground was so hard and I landed on my shoulder, I just fractured it and was out for the rest of the summer! The ground was in an awful condition aswell but at least they sort it (i hope) before the BE event.

I would say it is definitely the nicest track of all the novices, I went round two years running on my mums horse. A liittle word of warning though, the show jumping is in the main ring which meant I was absolutely irrelevant to Holly as she thought she was MRS BIG POTATOES!!!

Have some beatiful photos going into the water and also in the showjumping

My trainer jumped the novice two seasons ago. Now im pretty raw on the BE scene but she raved on about how nice it was for the rest of the season. Thing is with Chats- the ground is either near perfect, or near deadly.

its usually johnbritter photography but they dont' put the novice pics online, they also only take pics of the water like mine above, going the last 4 years has been perfect!

If you've gone round somerford and bradwall honestly it'll be fine!!!
