Oh my god, it's a big old event Chatsworth!

I did a fairly good dressage (for me) but it was nothing like the real pro's. There were the most amazingly smart horses there and I felt like I'd turned up at the wrong event! I think I was the only one in my section I hadn't heard of!!! He changed behind in the medium canter so I had to stop and sort that out but it was fairly good and I got 39.1. In all the excitement I forgot to pick my sheet up - doh! - so i'll never know what the judge thought

SJ was fairly hard to have a look at the course. There were marquees and hospitality all round the arena and people three deep on the ropes. I couldn't walk the course (as usual) so I had a peek from the corner. Could see roughly where the fences were but not a lot more! The course was up to height, very big and brightly built but reasonably fair.
Warmed up, popped a couple of cross poles and an upright and the bloody rotten steward made me go straight in. I wasn't ready, was at least half an hour before my time and I told him so, but he wasn't having any of it so in I went

The horse was fairly rude and tanked off a couple of times but we did well given the circumstances for 1 down. Oh and I had my phone in my pocket and it went off with a text going into the 3rd fence - a friend seeing how I was getting on. Didn't stop to answer it though!

XC - a big, bold, technical, cleverly built course which jumped very well if you were on the ball (like I am

). The quwstions started early on and they had done things like: long gallop to big table fence to another long gallop (so the horses got really strung out) then a triple brush arrowhead, 3 curving strides and a log/drop into the water, 90 degree turn in the water, step out to skinny log. There was another long gallop later on that ended in a corner to skinny combo (the fence wasn't skinny, but was placed so that you could only jump one end of it). The only time he put a foot wrong was at the first water - big hanging log in (the horses could see the water under it so you had to ride v strongly) and a log in the water - he had to put a stride of trot in to jump the log in the water. Finished clear, with 6.4 time (exactly the same time as Baydale - spooky or what?)

I ended up fairly well down the order as 10th place was on 35

but I beat Lucinda Green by 7 places - have never said that before, and will probably never get to say it again!)

I saw Cullohill do the most fab and tidy SJ clear, totally missed Baydale and k9h and sw123. What can I say - big place, lots of people! They did one of those 'I was there' t-shirts with all the names on it and I was 1st! (horse's name starts with an A) but I didn't buy one cos I would feel pretentious wearing it !

What a fab and lovely two days I've had!!!

Well done just looked at some of the dressage scores and they are incredible!
Sounds like a big confidence boost to you.

God I really admire your enthusiam!
I love Chatsworth, the XC is fab isn't it? Well done with it all, I think because its a bit of a posh do the best horses do well, I think our best there was about 21st (with a clear XC!!)
I love jumping in the big ring too, even if my ponio thought she was at a posing competition and always forgot to listen to my instructions!!

Anyhows I am sticking to the pointing, NO dressage and no scary SJ (why can I gallop at 1.40m with other horses, but I can't sit and hold to a knock down 1.40m without pooing my pants??

You just wouldn't believe some of the horses there, felt extremely out of place. You just can't join in and play when the big boys are turning out scores like that (not with a carthorse and a proper novice jockey anyway).

I think it sounds like a really fab place to be and you must be so thrilled as you did really bl00dy well against all them pro's, really well done

BBs I have bought a lovely pic of the horse jumping into the water looking like the happiest and keenest horse on the planet (ears pricked, toes pointed, smiling!) but I've got my mouth wide open! Might post a link when they go up on the web

Well done! Sounds awesome

I didn't think stewards could 'make' you go in before your time - they can offer you the spot if you want to take it but can't 'make' you - that was my understanding. I would have been very flustered at that point - sounds like you coped really well!

Fantastic, well done! We prob saw you, I felt like I walked from the rings and back to lorry park again about 8 times today!! The 3* dr was miles away too, so you do cover mileage at Chatsworth!! Pleased you said the SJ looked big, I thought it looked ok, so I must be getting braver!!

What section were you in?

I have 2 of those pics, they always seem to have a happy horse on them! Is it the water at Queen Mary's Bower?

FA2 - yes, at Queen Mary's Bower

KatB - Section C, the one with the ludicrous dressage scores, I did a bit of walking too. Had the dogs most of the time so didn't hitch a ride on the shuttle. There were a couple of smaller SJs but most of it was big enough, and the decor and effort in dressing the fences made it look very pro.

Yes agree with it re. the dressing of the fences! Saw it catch a few out, and my friends horse tipped the first pole of her BE career (short career so far admittedly!!) The purple oxer was def the upto 1.15m one!!

Well done! Sorry to miss you.
Think I heard you (well the commentator) when you were out on xc!

Was a very hot day aswell!

I'm really pleased you had a good day, now can i have the dunce's hat please? (bet you never thought you'd be handing it over to me, did you?)

I heard about a few falls/stops/eliminations but couldn't work out why. I'm sure a lot of the horses were a bit fazed by the people and things going on.

brilliant, welldone

its so difficult to beat the names, but sounds like you were well up there, so a great result in good company!

Nicky - you were right about the people, I can't believe they paid £12 each to see the likes of me!! (well there were probably there for the world cup dressage really). There were so many round the water when I came down to it I couldn't believe it. And you came at it from a wide galloping stretch so it certainly could have thrown a lot of horses. I did hear one girl eliminated for missing the last fence though - how on earth could you miss something that was right in front of you?????

I presume HH was a naughty boy? Would you like me to send Monty down to have a word with him? (mind you our SJ was hairy enough)

sorry not to see you - i've collected your test sheet today so pm me your address and i'll post it for you!

Good to see you again, and thank you for commenting on my SJ, sounds like you had a good day too, i managed to see 2nd half of your SJ and yes looked a bit keen!
6.4 time - i don't feel quite as bad now i am still really pissed off with my 8.8 time as i thought we were going super sonic speed but i now have real braking and turning issues so wasted alot of time hauling him - he now enjoys XC bit too much and thinks flat out speed is best, so i over compensate and have to try braking too early....... so new brakes needed!!!
Hope to see you out again this season
