Money's a bit tight at the moment and i'm also supposed to be saving for a trip to vegas next year for a friends birthday, So i need some suggestions for cheap alternatives to shavings, as one of my ned's has dust allergies so straws not an option, anything you think would be good would be helpful, thanks.

Hi there is a bedding which is chopped cardboard it doesnt look that great but I believe its quite cheap, sorry but I dont know the name but im sure someone else will know.

Peat is brilliant - expensive to start with but an excellent bedding. Paper or cardbord are also great, but can be expensive if you have a messy ned....how about using Easibed or cushion bed as a base and just a few shavings on top to make it 'pretty'? Cushion can be a touch dusty to put down, but mu COPD mare copes fine as long as I put it down weell before she comes in. Hope thats of some help?
Alternatively, could you bulk buy with someone on your yard? Thats a good way to cut down on cost....?

Oh....just remembered, Bedmax, you can get this for about £7ish a bale depending on the area you are in - if you could buy in bulk I think this reduces to about £6 a bale (obv depending on area) - thats what my boss does, cushion bed (£4.47 bale in pallets of 20) and Bedmax in bulk as a good mix. x

Cushion Bed!! Love the stuff. Just about to put both of my girls back onto it. I'm lucky that i live about 20 mins from the manufacturers so get it directly from them for £3.25 a bale (20kg bales) but think they deliver too if you have a certain amount. I used it for one of my old horses and dont remember it being dusty at all. I deep litter so just take droppings out daily & very worst of wet once per week, although wet sinks right to bottom so hardly ever need to get any out. I used to get through a bale a week which worked out even cheaper than straw as she was quite a wet mare. Friend is on easi-bed which is nice, think it's about £6.70 per bale round by us, rapport is good too although i think some horses find it quite tasty.

wood pellets !! and vegas is cheap too i spent £400 and that was a lot when i went for my friends birthday !!
