Can anyone help me - I managed to get myself in a right muddle earlier calling and talking to feed merchants. I am looking for basically the best value for money chaff - as in something like hi-fi - chopped hay/straw. Thanks in advance!!

would have to suggest Dengi products......simply the best

Mollichops & apple/garlic chaffs really cheap however they are usually molassed. Unmolassed ones like Hifi Lite are usually a bit more expensive. I.e. you can get mollichop for a fiver & apple chaff for less than that.

When looking for a cheap chaff you have to take into account bag sizes - Apple Chaff comes in a 12.5kg bag, whilst Dengie HiFi comes in a 20kg bag!

Plus you're paying for more chaff less molasses so works out cheaper. Would love to source some good old fashioned dry chaff, used to come in big hessian sacks.

Thorogoods special chaff cant recomend it highly enough its £4 for a 12.5kg bag, Dengie is £9 for a 20kg bag. They do a variaty of chaff one is cheeper i think but i like the pro biotics in it.

When all the feed went up in the Autumn I talked to my feed lady and she reccomended Molli Extra, 20 kg bags and quite cheap. My oldie had wintered well on it

Cheapest stuff I've found is the Mollichaff Hoofkind - very low cal, can be fed as a complete feed (so neddy gets all vits and mins) and is laminitic suitable. Its all mine get in winter (and not much of it at that - costs me £5/horse/month to feed through the winter!!)

ETS - wouldn't touch the countrywide own brand, gave mine an awful cough and within a week they turned their noses up at it. Can't say I blame them either.
