I have a limited budget (i'm saving hard!!) and i really need some neddy wheels. Some months I have hired transport 3 times in the month which is just silly.

what to do...

1- I would most definately prefer a box (a little transit type one similar, basic jobby) but being that my budget will be low I would only be able to afford something old, i can get cheap servicing and parts through my work. I'm only 23 so for 2 years the insurance would be higher than norm.

2- My sister has a Land rover so a different option would be to get a newish trailer, learn to tow, take my test and get insured on her 4x4. The idea of towing scares me a bit, especially given how small some show parking it, but think its just because i've never done it so its fear of the unknown!!

I cant decide what to do. Mostly my journeys will be local but all being well, a few longer distance weekends away. My dad thinks im absolutely mad for considering such old lorries as they will need lots of maintenance in the long run. I was hoping to get together about 3 grand and get an old little box but now i dont know whats best! help

maybe i will try towing around the yard at work and revise my thoughts, i might be ok with practice!

reversing - yes well all the lanes up to mine are only one car width so i'd better practice and get the knack of it if im going to tow!

Definatley trailer, i've just sold my old lorry, cost me £900 to get it plated this year, don't think it will pass next year. I was really worried about going back to a trailer but i love it..

A trailer is definitely the cheaper option but I'm sorry, I've got an old C reg lorry and I love it, I'd never go back to a trailer. Yes, plating is normally around £700-£1000 per year, but we had too many scary times with a trailer and one overturned with a friend of mine (no reason & horse inside- fortunately survived). I never mastered reversing a trailer but my lorry has a better turning circle than my Freelander and is especially brilliant on cold, wet days.
