I’m trying to find some cheap jump poles, does anyone know anywhere in Kent I can get some, only looking for a few, just to do some more gridwork? I have looked at a few websites but don’t really want to pay high delivery prices so was thinking I could pick them up in the box.

Any ideas? Thanks

Try your local timber yard. I got some from mine, they are larch poles I just had to strip the bark and leave them a couple of weeks before painting them-cost me £4 each!!

Thank you, I will look into this!!!

No problemo, the number of poles my horse broke when I was teaching him to jump I needed something cheap! Also, plastic crates make very good jump blocks (you can stack them so can have any height) I got mine free from a local plant nursery

Thats great. Any other tips for free or cheap jumps?

Obviously there is beer barrels, oil drums, pallets with branches in them for rustic fences, straw bales. Any more?

I have just bought some wooden round rails from the local agricultural merchant. Mine are smooth planed, no nobbly bits and no bark.

Ready to go!

As you are in Kent, you should be able to get redundant hop poles very cheaply or for free, as we did! They are longer than normal jump poles, but just cut the narrow end off and you have very useful rustic jumping poles!

Thanet showjumps in Biddenden are pretty good, I bought some painted wooden poles for £12 each and the rustic ones are cheaper. Picked mine up in the trailer, is on the same road as John Page Ifor Williams dealer.
