just to say after having several cheap shavings forks I would deffo spend the extra money on the Absorbine ones, as they will last and dont wreck my back and shoulders. If you dont have an entire yard to sweep then what about B+Q, Wilkinsons, Tesco, Wickes etc for a smaller stiff brush and small shovel. Its hard to find cheap non horsey forks as garden forks are heavy but horse forks are obv gonna be pricey as they think we can afford them if we can afford a horse!
I pick up the poos by hand (unless they are at the front of the stable then i just scoop them up), then use the snow shovel to scrap away the good shavings from the wet (they are very good for removing a layer of shavings at a time). Remove the wet, then chuck it up and pick out any bits of poo i've missed.
I used a snow shovel for my last horse and always will now. Great for scraping off top layer of shavings and much easier than craming a poo onto a small shovel. At least it's the right time of year I think they thought I was a bit odd asking B&Q if they had any in stock in July!
