Hi everyone. I need a new bedding for my horse, i have to have him on shavings due to my allergies. He's currently on bedmax but it's just so pricey i was wondering if there are any cheaper versions? I would like to use the same kind of bedding, with smaller flake shavings he make far too much of a mess and it would end up being just as expensive.
Thanks everyone

I found Bedmax not very absorbant and another livery tried mixing it with shavings, probably 2 shavings to 1 bedmax. She thought that worked really well. Sorry cant be of any help as to an alternative. I changed to straw which I realise you cant but its saved me a fortune.

I like bedwell bedding, chopped rape straw that lasts much longer than shavings and about £6 for a bale. I just pick out droppings and remove the wet once a week.

Straw would definitely save me a fortune as Straw comes included in my livery! Gutted haha. Thanks for your advice, i've tried mixing shavings in before, it's just not for me. I will have a look at bedwell and wood pellets though, thanks everyone :)

I've swapped to woodchip (easi/cushionbed etc) - zero dust in comparison to any shavings I've used (the only exception being countrywide woodchip which seems to have mdf and associated fine dust in). It holds well, poneh has been in on box rest on it for 2 weeks and I have put in one bale and I am fussy with my bed and I hate it looking dirty (not easy with a hippo of a horse). Easibed is £6/bale from the feedstore near me which is cheaper than any other bedding you can get (bar straw) without ordering especially. Cushionbed you can get for about £4.75/5.25 a bale. I was sceptical initally, but totally a convert :D
