Cheaper fly repellent ? Is this ok ?

Mmmm , not sure . I spoke to a horsey chemist lady at a lecture about human products on horses and she said they were a no no. Its to do with ph and chemical etc balances etc , even baby products she said were not suitable.Horses are different to humans. We even discussed shavings being carcinogenic topic ! She knew her stuff .

You'd be better to make your own natural stuff I think.

I make mine in a 2L drink bottle.

Boiling water
Three tea bags
Three cloves of crushed garlic
Lemon juice
500ml vinegar
Depending on your thoughts to it- a few drops of citronella oil.

Sure others will have other recipes.

The best fly repellent I have used so far is Tri Tec 14. Its not cheap at about £20.00 including p&p but worth it. All the others just do not work.
