I think the Tuffie wipe clean bed (http://www.tuffies.co.uk/products.asp) is just what I need for my dogs, but I'm a bit :eek: at the price, especially as I need two! I don't suppose any of you know of any lower cost, but comparable quality, alternatives?

Will grit my teeth and shell out if necessary, but would like to feel I had explored all alternative options first :)

Thank you in advance!

I've been looking for months and have sadly come to the conclusion that you get what you pay for - the cheaper ones have crap stuffing that goes all lumpy and flat.

I could do with several, one for the house, one for the crate, one for the car... will have to make do by re-plumping the cheap ones with duvets every few months as it'd cost hundreds for the Tuffies. :o

I have to agree with BC re getting what you pay for. I have 2 tuffies that I have had for at least 5 years (can't remember exactly when I got them but I know it was when I had my old girl and she was pts in 2006 :(), apart from a chew in one corner, which was down to Evil Evie when she was a pup and destroyed everything, they are still good as new.:)

Thank you both!

Blackcob - I know what you mean about naff filling which goes all lumpy or migrates to one end of the bed, and the nice futon filling of the Tuffies looks really good...

MurphysMinder - Great to know that they are built to last and that the quality matches up to the price.

...darn it, I think I'm going to have to shell out!

But... but... a nest! A snuggly dog nest! :p

Poor abused dog will have to make do with an old duvet, a much-washed bit of vetbed and a lumpen PaH bed:

Bliss. Little sod has been on the go all day today, now she's finally asleep we're all tiptoeing around the house to try and keep it that way...

How funny BC, in the past fortnight B has eaten a duvet, a Vetbed and MY FRIEND'S DOG'S PaH bed.
She looked out and he was sitting in the middle of the yard surrounded with white fluff with a bit green pillowcase in his mouth.

The duvet was the best, I thought there had been an outbreak of bird flu directly above the yard.....

Once Dylan gets a bit bigger (the old sheepskin numnah hes currently on looks a bit small now lol) He will have the choice of two old stable rugs (straps removed) both are 1200d so im praying he wont eat them but I wouldnt put it past him. lol.

Honestly? Bite the bullet and buy the Tuffies!

Speaking from experience - 10 working dogs - who are constantly wet and flilthy!

NOTHING compares. I have recently bought 3, i can't afford to buy all at once so i'm purchasing gradually! I have 3 of the Nests and they are fantastic :D

My next two are going to be the wipe clean beds.

Worth every penny! Believe me, i've wasted so much money over the years buying the 'cheap alternative' ... but not any more!!!!! :D

Our old dogs shared a big tuffie bed for years, it was one of the wipe down ones and the biggest size.

Within a month of having Molly pup there were bits of tuffie all over the house.....

I would love one for B but I am poor and a duvet seems to do the job well.

Scranny_Ann - I thought that was the answer, and now many of you have confirmed it.... darn it! Am fed up of buying beds which either get eaten (though that stage seems to be over with the little one, thank goodness), go lumpy or get that ingrained smell/dirt thing going on (or all three).

Littlemisslauren - Both dogs seem to have grown out of bed chewing (*touches wood frantically*) so I'm hoping Tuffies will be given a chance to survive.

My dogs have long coats and are usually wet through from the rain or from being de-filthed with the hose, and their fabric beds just get sooooo stinky and horrible. I have great hopes of the miracle wipe down waterproof bed!

Thanks MM and are they big/small for them? Dont think I'll get away with the next sixe down (76cmx 50 something cm) for a lab will I?

If they sleep curled up on them there is a bit of room (for a cat) but fully stretched out they totally fill them. Mine are bitches, a friend with a GSD male has the biggest size, I think your lab would overflow a bit on the smaller size unless very petite.

The Tuffie is the only bed that survived the push-pull through the dog flap of the spaniel tag team that was Jake and Brig. There was a regular slaughtered sheep thing going in til the arrival of the Tuffie. Even that is chewed round the corners but mostly intact.
