Any suggestions... my supply of feed balancer, and hoof suppliment are running low, so need to stock up, but watching the pennies atm.

Horses do not need high spec hoof suppliement, but one is TB and other TB x, so they do need something!

TopSpec, balancer & hoof supplement in one. Comprehensive if they need it, but anti lam is cheaper (lower in calories) but still with the hoof supplement.

I use equimins biotin for his hoofs and skin and then buy yeasacc 1026 seperate of ebay for his gut and to help him digest his fibre only diet, my horse is barefoot and his feet are great no cracks!

*Mineral balancing convert alert*

None of 'em can really balance an individual diet. If you don't actually know what it is you are feeding vit/mineral wise in your forage then how can you hope to balance it with an off the shelf supplement?!

The Orginal Vit-Min Cod Liver Oil Condiment by Argo.

Can't recommend it enough.

It’s only around 7 pound odd a tub, one handful for maintenance, 2 hands for competition/racing.

It’s an all round vit-min supplement, including herbs, seaweed and your cod liver oil, because the cod liver oil is in a powder form, this means the oil is better digested, great the for the joints and of course slow release energy and seaweed is very good for the skin and hooves.

You’ll see a difference both performance wise and after a month the coat will have a lovely bloom, everything you need in one supplement.

Brewers yeast from Charnwood.

There are a number of reports of barefoot horses on Top Spec having some issues. My friend had one, it made him itchy. Other people have had footie horses where the footieness has stopped when they stop using it.

Seaweed is not good to feed if your grazing or hay is already high in either iron or manganese.

I've recently started my horse on Simple System's Total Eclipse - contains Brewer's Yeast, seaweed and linseed. It isn't cheap but a bag *should* last me about 3 months, and they deliver (in my area anyway) free of charge. I started off buying the supplements straight from Barefoot Basics but it was going to end up costing me about £20 for 10-14 days' supply. I'm not always around so it's easier for me to have a prepared supplement, as my YO quite often does my horse's feeds.

SS described their Total Eclipse to me as a forage balancer. ATM my boy is getting it with what he has leftover of his high fibre nuts but will be having it with Alfalfa when they run out.

If you buy the components of SS TE from CHhrnwood its works out a lot cheaper :)

But then I have to work out what quantities to feed, and as I said, my YO quite often makes up his feed as I work away so it's easier to have a pre-prepared supplement.

When I posted a couple of weeks ago about feeding straight supplements, no one could give me a definitive answer of how much he needed so I went for the SS one instead.

Kenzo - any idea where I can get any of that stuff from?

If you contact your local horse feed supplies, ask if they stock Argo feeds, if they do, they will be able to order you some if they don't buy it on a regular basis.

Otherwise you could contact Argo directly and if where you nearest supplier is or perhaps order from them direct, they are based in Yorkshire, here is the email address if you want to drop then an email. info@argofeeds.co.uk.
here is the contact number if you want to give them a bell. Tel: 01226 762341

Disclamer: before anyone reports me for stealth marketing, don't bother, I don't work the above company, I'm just offering the OP some helpful advice.

Brewers yeast from Charnwood.

I love Charnwood Milling, I get my linseed and seaweed from there. If only they did the brewers in smaller bags though!!

They also do good wild bird food at a great price

I tend to feed seaweed at half dose as i dont analyse the forage at my yard, and im not sure of the iodine/manganese content, but it's something i have planned for the near future!

True.

Its probably not balancing your forage anyway!
