hi just wondering where is the cheapest place to buy herbs, im looking for comfrey and devils claw root? i have been looking at hilton herbs and equus health?? any more? thanks
Do you have any garden? You can certainly grow comfrey succesfully in this country and even in a pot if you dont have a garden. Im growing mint (various types) for mine in the garden. Im trying to expand the equestrian herb garden this summer
dont know about devils claw, but now I know what comfrey (think it is sometimes called knit weed as for its abilities to knit broken bones) looks like. You would be surprised at how many places it grows. Guess it would be easy to grow yourself- maybe try a garden centre?
i think you need to be carefull usng human herbs from human shops wth any animal as dfferent concentrates etc etc, also be carefull uying from ebay use a good site and only use one which is reccomended. you could look online at some pet pharmacie stores and see what you can find that way. some do free shppng as well.
They are great people, own horses and now a lot about herbs. You can buy either 100g, 500g or 1Kg and their prices are very reasonable. I buy my herbs from them and make my own herbal blends/remedies by researching the herbs properties and also by offering the herbs to my horses to see what they like.
Herbs due to being secondary metabolites (food being primary) are usually bitter to taste, therefore horses will generally only eat them when needed and not as a food source. At this time of year horses love marigold especially if they are bothered by fly bites or sweet itch suffers.
If you offer your horse devil's claw and he/she eats it, you know there is a pain or inflammatory issue going on as it is very bitter!
if you want a recipe to make your own 'No-bute' PM me for details.
