Hi, first time poster so please excuse me if this is in the wrong section. After some advice on covering an outdoor ménage. We have a nice outdoor area, which has evolved into an area for dog training over the years, due to horses passing away etc. However, we are a bit fed up of getting wet! Has anyone any suggestions/experience for covering the area to provide some shelter?

you will definitely need planning permission, even if it is short term use. I do know of somewhere that covers theirs for winter with a specialist thick plastic cover that is put over a frame and held in place with water filled ballast. It seems an absolute faff and involves serious machinery whenever they want to cover it and dismantle (planning allows them to cover it for 6 months during winter).

You're basically putting up a big sail unless it is secured correctly and I would suspect it will have to meet very particular requirements for health and safety and your insurance.

Id opt for good waterproofs, a lot cheaper!

You could put up a Poly Tunnel, although I have no idea as to the cost. I know someone who covered their outdoor swimming pool with one, and some farmers put one up for lambing.

If you put up a proper roof you probably would have to get planning permission and then there is always the possibility of rates too.
