Cheating at children's show

Been helping out at the RC Children's show, the most amazing thing happened. A girl, who other helpers thought was 18 (cut off point is 17th birthday) 'won' the novice SJ. I had already asked her her age, to be told 16. After the rosettes had been given out, I asked her DOB as there was obviously something not right, she hadn't even the wit, to work out a DOB that made her 16, she was in fact 18!
Why would anyone lie about their age to get a rossette at a little local childrens show? She did of course have to hand back the rosette and the medal, but the poor kid who had won did not get to lead the lap of honour

Cant abide cheats.....what does anyone get out of 'winning' when they dont play by the rules

And to stop someone else getting the glory is just plain sad

Absolutely, the kid who did win was only 14 and I am sure would have been thrilled to bits to receive her rosette in the ring, rather than the rather scrabbled affair in the collecting ring.

The brazen little madam tried to argue it out with me! Seemed to think I couldn't work out 18 from 2008, I don't think that one does shame! (found out that her general behaviour leaves a little to be desired, can't share here, but not a nice girl)

How sad that she felt the need to cheat. I hope the was embarrassed that you told her off and took her trophy off her!

I feel sorry for the eventual winner, would have been great for them to have had their moment of glory.

I had the same this weekend. Someone thought my daughter or another child was over the age limit. which she wasn't. Also there was a pony at least 13hh in the first ridden (12.2hh) and under, they even asked the child its height and she had obviously been told to lie and said 12.2hh.

I just don't understand why people do it. What satisfaction can you get being placed in a class you shouldn't be in ??????

Hate it , We had one very wrong judge at our local show yesterday who placed a 14hh Cob who was ridden by a 16 year old boy 1ST ..

and this was in a "tiny tots first ridden " , She also placed a terrible looking 13hh pony in the lead rein, there was some stunning looking ponies including tommy

that were not placed due to them " not being plaited" all of whom where Section A's . The class was a Tiny Tots open Lead rein .

The judge turned around and called one of the mums a "BAD LOSER" due to her complaining about her pony not being placed because it was not plaited .

Unfortunately some judges do it as well at local level. I went to fetch an embroidered rug (won in competition, just had horse's name added) from a local shop and was told that a certain local judge, who always swanks about competing at HOYS, actually buys his children's things locally and takes them to this shop. They have templates made up to his requirements, I've seen them. Never liked the man anyway. I hate people who brag so much, they rarely tell the truth. What does the future bode for his kids?

Not exactly children, but my daughter won a class the other week which qualified her for an under 21 championship. The judge asked her age (she is 19), and said that the someone had taken qualification certificates (and competed at the Championships) for the last 2 years when they were over 21. It only came to light because another competitor had remembered going to her 21st birthday party!

Been there, got the T-shirt. Why some judges are unable to understand that natives are presented au naturelle is beyond me. Always happens at our local show, but I'm dying to see what happens this year when we enter a native RHS Champion in an open class.
