Big horse has come in from being a p&*t in the field just not quite sound, lump/heat/pain on his front leg (underneath his knee at the backl) and vet thinks check ligament/ SDFT.
She's recommended box rest, 2x cold hosing, bandages at night for a couple of months and see how it goes.
Any other top tips?

Get him scanned. It's the only way you'll*know for sure... but it does sound very, very similar to my horse who did the same injury and was out for a long time. But that was mainly because the wally upset it again freestyling in the field. :(

Ice, ice and more ice. Cold is very good. Make some ice cups by filling polystyrene cups with water and freezing. Rub the open end over the injury in a slow circular movement to prevent freeze burns.

Do this twice a day - mind numbingly boring but worth it I can tell you.

Thanks both - vet did offer scanning but treatment wouldn't be any different no matter what they found so I'm going to see how he goes and scan in a month if not external improvement.

I'm cold hosing (which is pretty cold at the moment) 2/3 times a day and ice tight on 24/7 - I'll give ice cups a go

Its tricky with bandaging to support his legs as surely this heats up the legs so I'm bandaging over night (over ice tight) and leaving them off in the day
Anyone tried Ice boots or equivalent and are they worth it ?

Find a rehab yard with a cold water standing spa. Magic for soft tissue injuries and as long as your vet goes along with it you can get on the alternative therapies on your insurance (provided you have that cover)
