Whilst searching for 2nd hand boots on ebay i came across these torture devices!:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-...123694?hash=item264ba8feae:g:dL4AAOSwhXBfhEzg

I can’t get over the heel bulb bracket and screw to keep them on the hoof! ?

While on the subject - is the sizing all the same for all makes of hoof boots? Is cavallo size 4 the same size as Easyboot size 4? Or do i have to know the specific sizing system of all hoofboot makers?

amazing, I use my horse to mow the lawn so obviously he needs a pair of these.

every manufacturer uses a different sizing system.

Yes equi - that big steel plate, tightened with the massive screw, would have clamped into the heel bulbs. Not literally the screw went into the heels!

They are very unusual ones I would have to look back but 30 years ago my horse wore a pair to mow the lawns for The Victorian Flower Garden program they did not have the screw. He got paid £150 for half a days filming and I got a free lunch at the pub! The camera men thought my horse was very demanding as I would say you have to film now I can not hold him any longer, he was also a lot faster than the average lawn mowing pony!!

Heel bulbs of the horse? No. The caulkins of the shoe. The clamp would not have touch the foot of the horse.

The lawn slippers I had were similar and had the adjusting screw and a leather strap round the pastern. They were felt-lined. No idea where they got to come to think of it.

Ahhh, i see - i thought maybe the leather padding was missing from this pair to cushion the hoof held in the boots.
I’ve never seen such boots before, quite the invention!

When i bought my place i found many old farm horse-pulled tools buried in the land, old shoes, even an old all iron sythe hay cutter buried in thick ancient brambles....even a handmade leather womans shoe with a metal horse shoe nailed to the sole! I like antique tools and never knew that hoof boots even existed back then!

We've found quite a few implements, tools etc buried on our place too, everything from a plough to a tiny stirrup. Its fascinating getting that glimpse into history.

We've had a few of the (human) leather shoes of different sizes and I was told that (whilst they look very similar to horse shoes) the metal re-enforcement on the sole was actually made specifically for the purpose.

Hoof boots existed before nail-on shoes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippo... soleae ferreae, and written about by Xenophon.
