Hi, my horse was kicked badly on tuesday which has resulted in two vets visits so far, pain killers, and another visit to come with xrays for which hopefully is not a fractured leg!
I called my insurance company KBIS and found out my excess is £275! which is way more than I thought and even the vet said that's high, also found out that he is'nt covered for livery costs if he has to go to hospital, I suppose I cant really blame KBIS it was upto me to check the small print, but im annoyed about the livery costs as i did ask for full cover and max vets bill cover.
So if you were like me and just paid for your insurance, have a good look now at the small print, I much rather would of payed a few quid more a month to get what I consider full vets cover and a lower excess!

Ouch. Poor you and poor ned

As I understand it, a lot of insurance companies don't cover the costs of livery in horsepital. Some vets will put it down as hospital: I can't remember what they called it, but it meant that the bill to me was lower than it would have been.

I always thought things like the XS were negotiable when you took the insurance out. NFU do not pay livery costs at horspital either.

Interesting, they paid half of my mares livery costs when she was operated on... That was 5 years ago though

there are some that do, but also some insures have a percentage xs which is ridiculous because it reli takes a lot of your claiming amount im with petplan and the have flat rate xs and pay half of livery and nursing cost.

I think they do pay 50% of the stay at the hospital (livery).... can't remember exactly, but I do think so! This was last year. Transport also got fully refunded.

You have to opt into hospitalisation fees usually. I've been with Equestrian Direct for years and now Amtrust; with both companies I had to opt to have hospitalisation. I also had the option of two excesses - one is £250 and one is £120 but chosing the lower one means my premium is higher. FWIW, I opted for both the lower excess and hospitalisation fees.

If you look in the policy, it tells you that hospitalisation /livery costs are not covered.

Hope horsey is on the mend soon
