Checking out a dealer

How do you go about checking out a dealer? There seem to be several dodgy dealer fb pages and I'm not sure how you would search on fb for a particular dealer to see if they are "dodgy". Do you just scroll down through the posts?? Dealer in question in Joanne Shaw in Cheshire.

I believe she has a good reputation locally or at least she did 12 months ago when I was looking
 
I think she's someone who has had her page cloned so make sure you get the real person not a scammer. Look for angry faces on adverts, adverts all with multiple different locations and riders, a lot of friends from overseas, likes from overseas profiles and do an image and text search for the horse you are interested in incase it's a stolen advert.

Crikey! A new level of angst for horse buyers!
 
Make sure you do get the paperwork as jhoward said. Dig deep and ask lots of questions and always tread very carefully.
The last horse I bought from a ‘reputable ‘ dealer who had lots of good recommendations, turned out not to be good at all and put me in hospital. ( Not Joanne Shaw I must add). Also, check out if the dealers are Agents ie Sales Livery and don’t own the horse themselves, as this makes a difference to getting your money back if you need to. Do your due diligence- can’t stress this enough!
 
Well, this does all sound terrifying! I've mostly bought youngsters from private homes that I've backed myself so not really faced these issues. I think I was just sort of "fantasy" shopping - my beloved horse has been diagnosed with a condition that means he can't be ridden. Not quite ready to throw in the towel riding-wise, so just thinking through the options. It's been a good reality check, so thanks all!
