Due to a rather stressful few weeks Prince has had some down time and I didn't feel that doing unaff dressage with him would really be much fun (He'd have been perfect considering but I would have felt bad we are not at our best). Fortunately dad has kept his cob ticking over and was going anyway so I had a cheeky catch ride. We were in the PYO class and it would have been too political to pick the prelim option as dad was doing the pure prelim class. Rivalry :p He's only done prelim and freestyle novices before but he was managing the Elementary test (E42) well (rode him twice before) and it really highlighted his strengths. So off we went in that! Slight confusion from the judges as they hadn't had anyone else do the Elem and being on a unclipped cob I'm not sure they were expecting it ;)

Anyway he was a star and really tried. The first medium trot he broke pace, but the other medium trot and both medium canters we got a real change of pace though the trot he fell onto his forehand. The 10m circles/15m canter/counter canter were all as good as could be hoped, he's way more balanced and supple than you'd expect of a 6YO HW! The only other mistake other than the first medium trot was wrong lead in the walk to canter. He was amazing basically! It was a massive step up for him and my first test on him. Considering how green he is at that level, he was a star!

Back later to collect the results expecting to be mid-bottom simply as he's a HW cob winging in in a class where there was no other cobs and several WBs in the novice and the prelim! In the end we were the only Elem entry, but still managed a 2nd/15 with just shy of 69%! It was a 'proper' judge too! What a clever cob. Maybe he has a new calling!

Apologies for the state of him but he's living unrugged and growing out feathers and hogged. His normal routine of short rides and lots of easy going hacking doesn't require rugs and clips, but 6 inch long white fur doesn't polish up that well mid winter! He's not moaning about it though ;)

So proud of him, he really is one of worlds triers! He also managed 69% in the Prelim with dad :)

ps. He's only 14.1 and I'm 5'4, doubt Ill grow into him :p I have to ride him as short as that as my hips wont cope with longer, his width is something else!

Yay! Cobs can . I'm hoping to do some basic dressage with my 14hh HW and posts like this are so inspiring.

Hooray for cobs :) He looks brilliant!

I'm aiming to get mine up to Novice/elementary level, it's me that's the weak link in all this, I have no doubt she'll be capable. It'll not be a shock to the judges in my area though, there are some very good cobs and highlands up my way.

Essex unaff dressage had a whole range but even at W+T you get imported warmbloods! We have lots of cobs but not many at much of a level- he was almost the only true cob at the riding club area qualifiers for both winter and summer too- my Welsh cob being the next 'cob' up! In general we don't have much turnout so most competing are coming in, clipped and rugged by this time of year too.
