Hi!
My Mum has a Welsh Sec D colt who we have had since xmas. She unfortunatley had to have an op last week and so I have been left in charge of all of ours til she is well enough to start again! What with work and my others he hasn't been getting as much attention as usual (He is Mums baby now we have all pretty much left home! She spends hours doing stuff with him!) He really had been the easiest little thing to handle. We've never had any problems, he's always stood happily tied up/feet picked out/groomed/led in out of field. However since Mum has not been around I have noticed a huge change in his behaviour and I'm actually starting to struggle with him! I think its a combination of the grass coming through/missing his mummy and hormones. He started off constantly trying to bite me when being led in and out of the field no matter what the consequence! That has now escalated to him rearing every time we get through the first gate out of the yard and kicking out with his front legs in a tantrum when he gets told off for said offence! He rears everytime he decides he doesn't want to go somewhere. He absolutely refuses to co-operate when I pick out his feet. It is now a two man job. He also tries to drag me in and out of the field and he is getting really quite strong now!
He is turned out from 8am to about half 5/6 with my 4yo. So he is getting plenty of time to stretch his legs and play. I am by far the strict one out of Mum and I so he never gets away with doing this stuff. I have really tried to spend time with him but I have work and my others to do so I just can't spend as much time with him as what Mum does.
I've had a good feel and I don't think anything has dropped yet if you know what I mean!
Sorry about the essay. It's just I've had youngsters before but not this young and its all a bit new to me and obviously I haven't got Mum around to ask her!
Thanks, Laura x
