Cheeky/ridiculous posts you see on Facebook.

Well after saying I'd leave it be I did wake up this morning and phone the number 🤣

No answer! So I sent a follow up text again. And might have posted on FB to see if anyone recognises the pony or seller. But that's really all I can do now. Poor little mite, I hope she lands softly wherever she is.

To be fair, no one knows her situation and I don’t think you can judge someone’s entire life or character from one post. I actually feel a bit sorry for her. She’s clearly put lots of time into doing a nice post and from the ad sounds like she’s more than happy to get stuck in with jobs.

Indeed! You have no idea why shes on universal credit, and quite frankly its non of anyones business. She sounds lovely and if I still had horses she'd be welcome to come and ride them in return for doing some jobs.

I feel sorry for her too, she probably has a tough life, but if her mental problems are so bad she can't work then I wouldn't want her unsupervised in my stable yard I'm afraid.

Also she can’t tack up alone so you have to be present
So at that point if I’m at the yard I might as well just do the jobs myself
Doesn’t save a trip

Ignoring the UC thing… she does ask quite a lot for a small amount of money. A nice horse of the kind everyone wants, help to tack up, and ideally being taken out to the beach etc. It wouldn’t be worth even the tacking up bit to get £10 or £20 per month, and she doesn’t sound a good enough rider to improve the horse in any way.

The post, while detailed, just doesn’t read like a knowledgable horse person has written it. This would also be a red flag for me.

Why not do work with horses ? Instead of sponging off the tax payer. The bloody nerve.
are you offering her a job? Because it's likely the same reasons people are saying they would be windy about having her on the yard meaning she's not overun with offers of work too.

The amount of info in her post must have taken a lot to post publicly, good for her! Would the same reactions be if she didn't mention UC? Really though looks like she's had loads of advice in looking for a wee part share, she's taken it in and put all of it on her post.

Hope she finds some supervised, learning horse experience.

Re comment about working in equine industry- has it became less toxic now? I'm nearly 40 and just considering it now seriously. No way could I have handled it years ago 🙈 Genuine question x

My reaction would be that she wants an awful lot for a maximum of £5 a week which she states she will pay in arrears. There's not much in it for the horse owner if she needs a high level of supervision and is expecting you to give up your time and bear the costs of taking her on outings. Most people are paying £100's a month to keep a horse and you might as well just go and ride your own horse yourself. You can also end up with a vet bill and a horse that's out of action for a good while if a novice does something daft.

She does say she wants to (not just willing to) do horse jobs so if someone wanted a bit of help and someone to ride with then it may be a nice opportunity to help a younger person get more experience. She may pick everything up quickly so may not need supervision for long.

Her ad seems honest and it doesn’t read like she’s exaggerating her skills.

Perhaps I'm an old cynic but would private horse owners want the opportunity to take on a novice person with anxiety and poor mental health?
Of course it depends on the degree of the problems but it sounds more of a job for a dedicated equine assisted learning set up to me

I've done it a few times. Its incredibly rewarding on both ends. Makes me forget that there are people who sneer and judge others as spongers.

I feel like this would depend very much on what she means by needing help with tacking up. If she just means that she takes a bit longer than most people would to learn the correct way to put on a new horse's tack, and would like someone to double check for the first little while, that's one thing. If she means that on high anxiety days she gets flustered and forgets which straps go where, on an ongoing basis, then that's a much bigger commitment. The former means a longer orientation period than usual. The latter means that she pretty much can never ride without the owner there - not impossible to find necessarily, but much rarer. Could be easier if the owner had horses at home, or if there were staff on site who didn't mind doing a quick tack check.

You know absolutely nothing about this girl - how and why have you assumed that she's sponging? There's a ginormous difference between spending an hour or two once or twice a week doing chores for one pony than there is working with horses even part time. I used to work on yards for a few hours a week and it was bloody back breaking, and I'm a young, fit woman with no health issues.

The chances are one day this girl will be paying tax, and maybe her parents, sisters, brothers, aunts are too. Hey, maybe they're NHS workers or clean the toilets you shit in on the train. Try taking 10 seconds to have a bit of empathy for someone who perhaps isn't as fortunate as you.

There's an extremely lenghty WANTED ad from a woman who wants a gelding only school mistress (!) and then a looooooong list of requirements. Including very specific breed and colour choices. Oh and she'll be in a position to buy around October time. If her current horse (who has destroyed her confidence and been injured forever) sells by then....

I do sometimes wonder who people like that think they are appealing to! Yes let me hold this perfect horse for 5 months when someone wanting a unicorn who poops rainbows might be in a position to view him.

Why is everyone anonymous nowadays? Especially loan adverts - why would anyone loan a person a horse if they cannot even put their own name on the wanted ad?

I saw an anonymous poster advertising a companion horse yesterday. No other info. So many replies, I was astonished. Either people are completely lacking any kind of caution, or they were dealers. ☹️
