Rolo is a 2-year-old Shar Pei with a history of aggression and severe separation anxiety. He is not a typical pet – he needs professional experience or proven skills with reactive/aggressive dogs, along with rehabilitation, structure, and consistent management.

Key points:
• Reactive to strangers, other animals, and some family members
• Has bitten in the past – experienced handler required
• Cannot live with children or other pets
• Previously rehomed; this is a last chance

We are only looking for someone who can actively manage and rehabilitate Rolo. Please do not send advice or comments that don’t apply to this – irrelevant messages will be ignored.

Rolo has immense potential in the right hands. Only contact if you are skilled, dedicated, and ready for a serious behavioral project.

Please only comment with HELPFUL advise on rehoming (we do not need your opinions or unsolicited advise, that will not help Rolo. Finding him his forever him WILL help him though & we only have a couple of weeks to do so) 😔

I maybe seen as cruel but having come across an aggressive shar pei I would consider putting to sleep. At least the rescue are willing to be supportive I guess.

Poor dog. It seems so unlikely a suitable home will come up for him. He also just does not sound like a particularly happy dog does he?
 
Poor Rolo. I'm trying to figure out what the great potential this 2yo shar pei with a bite history is displaying is suppose to be? Apart from possibly a potential disaster.
Some "no pets, no children, with bite history" dogs are lucky enough to find someone experienced, capable and willing to take them on, but not that many and I can't imagine trying to sort it out in a rush is conducive to it all ending well. A one way trip to the vets wouldn't be the worst outcome for this dog.

This one of the breeds I wouldn't touch with a ten foot barge pole. Haven't met one I like yet.
 
So I was going to reply to this on FB but you can’t comment unless you follow the page for 24hrs.
Having run holiday accommodation that is dog friendly. We also asked that dogs didn’t go upstairs or in the ‘formal lounge’. We did have a snug with sofas that dogs could go on.
Virtually every comment is people saying that they just ignore house rules and let dogs go where they want and it makes my blood boil.
Hosts do know that people break rules. There isn’t a fat lot we can do about it unless real damage is caused and even then it’s a pita to sort.
The main reason I didn’t allow dogs to run riot is trying to keep things clean. Dogs and kids inadvertently are dirty and it costs a small fortune to keep everything spotless because it’s Sod’s Law that the booking you get after people with a million children and 3 dogs is a family who expect the house to have been forensically cleaned in the 4 hour turn around we had.

To be fair I do think they should state that at the time of booking but I think their rule is 100% fine
I don’t let my own dogs upstairs in my house as it’s all carpet upstairs and be a nightmare to hoover so I get it

TBH, although I think the rules are fair, and I would crate mine when staying in a holiday let, I do think that the owner should have conveyed this before the day before the holiday. It should have been made clear at time of booking.

Mine would settle fine in a crate, it's where they sleep at home, and they don't go upstairs or on furniture, because I want my own home to be clean. But, I can acknowledge that some pets may not settle downstairs if they are not used to this.

Surely it's basic manners to not let dogs go on other people's furniture?!

When we first started I didn’t really have any set rules for dogs. We’d purchased the property as a going concern and inherited the ongoing bookings. The carpets were tired and had some light staining on them and I did let people know we were aware and not a lot we could do as we had back 2 back bookings all season.
Until one family turned up, said it was fine and then the day after they left sent me an email with a picture with every stain, every tiny scuff on a skirting board or wall threatening to write a horrible review on Facebook unless they got their money back.
After that first season we renovated and redecorated and put rules in.
 
It needs to say at time of booking.
I had this a few years ago - dog friendly, made no reference to dogs not being allowed upstairs. Arrived at property to find that in the rules.

We had to ignore it or go home and lose our money as my dog wouldn’t cope being downstairs, especially in a strange house and would risk her being destructive. No crate with us as didn’t expect to need it. We didn’t let her on the furniture though and I hoovered within an inch of its life.

If they said prior to booking, I would not have booked.

I agree. Friends have a couple of luxury, high end holiday houses that are dog friendly. They have no restrictions on where dogs can go/sit/sleep. The worst damage (or filth) is made by the people who stay there. Some of the stories makes me wonder if people actually have any common sense or desceny.

People are wild 🤣. We’ve been fairly lucky apart from the woman who wanted a freebie.
There was a man going around the local holiday let’s who stripped the mattress protectors off all the beds, peed on the mattresses, remade the beds and went on his merry way. One of his victims set up a private Facebook group determined to track him down.

Our ten-year-old small lap dog jumps onto any sofa. Yes, he’s spoilt, but we make sure he’s clean or I leave him in our porch until he’s dried off or I’ve cleaned him. If we stayed somewhere with strict rules I would use a towel or blanket to make sure he didn’t leave a trace, but I don’t think I’d be able to prevent him from jumping up on a sofa.

We will be renting out a house soon and I am dreading to think of all the pitfalls to beware of.

Tbh hosts can’t do much about it. We know it happens, there’s generally always some evidence.
We took our dog away and in the guest rules is asked not to use the wet room shower to hose dogs off. We had to as there was no alternative but I scrubbed the shower down after.
 
My parents also run a holiday let and decided to introduce a once off charge for pets (I think around 25€ a stay) because before they did that, people would turn up with unannounced pets and my parents used to have a "pet rug" and a "no pet rug", so would have the wrong rug down. The fee is for the extra cleaning they have to do. They always appreciate people who bring their own throws to protect the furniture. People do still turn up with unannounced pets, but now my parents ask for them to pay the extra charge.
People will try anything, my parents holiday let is in the same courtyard as their house, so guests sometimes have to backtrack a bit. One couple got there and then asked if their friends with a campervan could park in the yard. My parents said no, they would have to park on the village green as they basically wanted to plug the campervan into the house electricity.
They also put in a new rule about not being allowed to charge electric vehicles on the holiday let's electric (they're not equipped or insured for it). People would have to use the charging points in the village.
The best was the couple who showed up with an extra kid. The house only sleeps 4. And then they complain that the twin bedroom didn't have enough space to put a mattress down for kid number three... well yes, that's why it only sleeps four.
 
We have three dogs we take away with us, always take throws, as they can sneak up on sofas when we are cooking etc. we always try to leave the house as clean as we found it regarding the dogs, even take a hair scraper thingy for carpets, some of the hoovers in some let’s really don’t help trying to clean up dog hair from carpets though.

Eugh yeah we’ve had that too with the electric car charging. We had a charger installed and asked people £10.00 for an overnight charge. Still found people plugging a charger into their car out the kitchen window.
Only had one incident of people trying to bring extra guests. One guy booked and then sent back the online booking form saying there would be 6 adults and 7 children 🤯. We sleep 8 and can accommodate an extra child in a cot.
I refused his booking and refunded him but he complained that 4 of the children were babies so ‘didn’t count’.
My insurance and fire regulations said differently.
