WANTED

Advanced horse that knows its job to teach amateur rider the higher levels movements. Ideally something that is capable of small tour or needs stepping down. Excellent home and care however limited budget so open to options re sale or lease or vet history etc.

I would want to know how ‘limited’ that budget is. Small tour horses are in the high five figure budget.

Not a facebook but an advert site one.
Advert for a very large sport type who sounds lethal. Has aggression issues with food in and out the stable, can't take a wheelbarrow in the field because he'll charge you. Stressy, dominant, bites, needs restarting, bolts when mounted and ridden, needs sedating for any farrier, vet or dentist, stressed in stable and cannot be the last horse out and turns out alone. Companion or project for close to 2k

Urm vet investigation or PTS that should say 😥

I would offer it field space if it was free (don't have to poo pick) with the other field ornaments and let it decompress with no human interaction until it wants to come over when the others have attention. That's how I ended up with so many equines in my youth.
It would be the constantly watching to make sure the horse didn't think there was a reason to think food or hay was involved along with the size that would put me off. That size animal coming at you teeth bared and charging. I've been flattened by a smaller one and that wasn't fun. I'd be wary of why he's on individual turnout as well, it says he's dominant could be that there would be triggers there too

This.
In my youth I’d probably have the same thoughts about offering a home but now I think about what happens when the horse does need to interact with a human? Vet/farrier or if I was unable to care for the horse - who would I ask?
I’ve dealt with feral horses who didn’t have the aggression unless they really felt threatened one who wasn’t feral but had extreme aggression and it’s a totally different thing.

Exactly this, we had a similar situation with a very aggressive mare. Needed a vet investigation but vet couldn’t get near her, wouldn’t stay in a field to turn away, would attack field mates, and again what were the options? Put in a field to rot forever without feet trimming/vet care if required - what if she needed moving or got out onto the road? She could’ve killed someone let alone herself. Was hard but had to be PTS (which was a big challenge in itself)

I have had feral, and I agree if they need vet, farrier regularly it is a problem. However if the field is big enough, 25 acres up and down hills, enough escape areas to hide, they soon, in my experience, join the main herd with sometimes a rejiggle of the pecking order. Maybe solitary confinement is part of the problem.
I see it as I used to give ' last chance' to live, not 'rot in a field', as soon as they need a lot of attention and they don't like humans, that's when it is PTS. You do have to be realistic.

Where is this ad?

Looking for a long term loan or to buy horse between 14.2hh to 15.2hh aged over 12! Ideally something happy to take 15 stone. Must be safe and sane to be ridden.

Forever home offered for the right horse.

I am an older lady with over 30 years experince in owning and looking after all sorts of horses. Extremely experinced home awaits with acceptional levels of care and so much love to give.

Don't mind something thats older ie 16 plus which needs to slow down, or a golden oldie which isn't ready to retire yet.

MUST BE SANE AND SENSIBLE! due to me riding alone around our busy country lanes and open moors, also needing to regain my confidence after not riding for a while, due to me sadly loosing my golden oldie after 20 years of owning him, plus I haven't ridden much in the last year or so.

I am in Cornwall, so I would prefer not to travel further than Bristol. Thank you
.

Lots of comments about 15 stone on something 14.2 - 15.2…
I know there’s a lot of debate about weight carriers but with tack on surely it’s nearer 16 stone ?

If I had the room I would do this too.
Just let it be a horse with human interaction only on its terms and a bullet if behaviour suggested it was in pain in the field or had other issues (eg brain tumor)

Asking £2k for something that damaged is insane though

Wish we could have done it with ours to be honest but she wasn’t just feral, suspected ovary tumours so no hope of improvement without intervention which was impossible. If I ever got lucky enough to have the land I’d love some last chances, I think you’re right, time and freedom changes a lot of things for most horses.

Seems like a lot of weight for that size horse was my fist thought in reading it too.

That's too much weight for a horse of that size. My chunky-ish 15.2hh with a fair amount of bone comes in at 575kg on the weigh-bridge competition fit. 600kg at his 'winter weight' (not fat but not galloping lean). I always take 15kg off for tack and clothing which puts his ideal rider weight at 11st and under. I think that's about right for him, I've been 11.5 stone and felt I was pushing it, I'm now just under 10 stone and feel about right on him.

For me it was the wording that raised an eyebrow - 'Ideally something happy to take 15 stone'. But only ideally. If the horse is a bit unhappy with it then that would also be ok.

I'm sure she didn't mean it this way, but...

I wonder if she's lighter but has a partner/friend who would like to ride occasionally who is heavier? I might be being very generous with that thought though 😂

That is also how I would read it.

My BF is too heavy for Rigs, so most of the time rides H. Sometimes though, BF does ride Rigs. The vet has OK'ed it, physio says no residual effects, I bought them a compatible saddle, Rigs adores being ridden by him and I allow it on shorter rides, occasionally. If Rigs looked uncomfortable or objected, then BF would just ride H going forward.

Rigs does also now have a smaller person who comes to ride him twice a week (the power of Facebook), and I still feature on him sometimes.

You dont know this women neither do you know anything about her, she has had weight carrying small in hieght horses on which shes never ever been told by vets or back specialest that shes to heavy for when she has asked!
