Spoke to the local council yesterday about the possibility of getting two public footpaths re designated as bridleways, expecting a big 'go jump'.

Was told that they would need to speak to the actual land owners, but as long as they are both happy, they would re designate both and waive the associated fees as it's for the good of the local public.

1 of the paths goes through our YO's land - so that will all be fine. The other is a local estate that has several horses and a riding school. They have a bridleway already going across the land in one direction, this other path just joins up with it in the middle.

Was so shocked to be told that it's actually quite easy to get it changed and they would do it for free!

That's great, I hope they pass it.

I might have a go at seeing if I can get a bridleway extended - we have one that goes nowhere. It ends abruptly and then the next bridlepath is about 400 yds away. However, the gap is a field of crops so I don't know if they would allow a path across the middle of that - it would be quite a long way to go round the perimeter of the crop field (I did ride round the edge once when I was exploring the bridlepath in the first place).

Who did you contact? Is there a bridleways dept at the council or is it a general public paths dept?

I just completed a form on the website, for general enquires, they forwarded it along to the correct person who called me back. Sorry, I don't remember the department.
